On management, it's tough to find good info - some is trite leaderhip strategies. I tend to favor the order writings cause they've stood the test of time. I keep this one saved and re-read it pretty regularly. http://

Why was it acceptable for America to place nuclear missiles near Russia, but not for Russia to respond by placing nuclear missiles near America. Can you explain how this is different from the statement, how is it acceptable for the US to ha

I'm not sure the new revalations here that prove the accusation that Kennedy caused the crisis. You would have to first, try to understand the cold war mentality prevalent at the time. Admittedly, the threat of Soviet expansion was a

Yes I believe it's often very loose. Just because a position is open, not all those HAVE to be filled, and even if so, not immediately. The urgency isn't there. Also, the mgmt may not be in sync on the role. A number of things

Does everybody need to learn to code? One's health is pretty important to one's staying alive - not everyone learns to be a doctor. Finance and accounting is the lifeblood of a business, not everyone learns to be an accountant. Ev

Is HATEOAS generally considered good? I recently had to integrate to two corporate systems. One, the API used typical GET, POST, PUT, etc.. The second (before I knew the term applied to this) provided a single URL whose response was neede

True, you may want to adjust for say, years of experience. Although if that was transparent. For instance, Dev level 2 makes 100k with 10k additional per every 3 years professional experience - you have differences amongst the staff but le

Both are reasons to keep salaries secret. The information advantage helps in negotiations with employees. Also, the secrecy prevents anger over comparisons. It seems unneccessary to me. Why not just pay people the same for each position

Ignored is the fact that market was up 150% in the preceeding 12 months of its top. It's an extremely volatile market and a large selloff would be expected, probably inevitable. It's still up for 2015. Not exactly a crisis.

Over time, all software tends to get bigger and not necessarily better. Windows went from 7MB required (95) to 6GB required (Vista), 1000x bigger, in just 10 years. It's true in file formats as well and verbosity is one of the reasons

That's interesting. I was in a small/mid size co. where the CEO had to approve all raises. I would think it makes more sense to have bands for each position and only hiring or going outside those bands would need approval.

There are plenty of reasons to be skeptical of the idea of a hierarchy-free organization. I get the appeal of thinking we are going to live in a world without bosses, but how utopian is this idea? Misguided, maybe. I believe the current e
