This is something that people would want. But I have a question about business model choice here, because I'm curious why they chose to become a front-end to various banks in this way. Why choose to be a middle-man here (with all of the pa

FWIW, The Cyberiad, a collection of related stories, is a great read for hackers. I come back to it every few years. Trurl, attempting to build a machine to write poetry: http://books.google.com/books?id=kWElP9YZkzQC&lpg=PA44&#...

Keeping a historical trove of prices would also be really neat-- then you could see what to expect. It's cool, I would use it. I'd love to be able to set a range of mileage and price, filter by model names, location, etc. etc.

This statistic seems bogus no matter how I try to figure it. From wikipedia ( https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Internet_traf... ), the total internet traffic in 2008 was estimated at 7639PB. And for 2010, that number had onl

I do as well. I sum up my online purchases from Amazon, add my wife's in, and pay the money. It goes to funding the things I use: Roads, firefighters, the library, the park next to my house. Heck, there was a fire two weeks ago in the ap

I'm in a state of disbelief that this is the top article on HN right now. Reading this article made me feel like I was shopping in the discount aisle of the pop-psych megalo-mart. This article is cheap shoes. It is poorly written, contain

There are three ways you can use SSDs with ZFS. First, you can use SSDs in place of rotating rust. Second, as was previously mentioned, you can use an SSD as an extension of your filesystem cache. That's called Level-2 Adaptive Replaceme

I don't have much to say about the functionality, but I did notice that while the site is in English, the default view for the "Terms of Service" is in French, and there seems to be no way to display them in English. Unless I can understand

I lack the ability to downvote you, but this comment is clearly a series of fallacies. You've assumed at least two things I don't see in evidence: a) That the customers Sun served in 2004 didn't care about anything ten years away. That th

http://www.propgrok.org/ -- A (nonpartisan) guide to 2010 California Propositions. I would appreciate any feedback, and I realize it's not too pretty. My bigger issue is that I'm at a loss as to how to get people to come visit the site

I think the spin of applying a specific investment philosophy to stock portfolios is pretty neat. In the portfolio view (last link): (1) Every company name is elided (ends in ...). That says to me that the column is too small, or needs to

A cognitive issue I had while trying your site was with the seat color coding scheme. In "deal mode", red is "worst" and green is "best". Black is "unknown". This makes sense to me. However, some games don't have "deal mode" (why not?),

I got a series of "lol" popup dialogs, then was pushed out of the room and returned to Hacker News. I was fairly frightened by this turn of events and won't return using my normal browser without some assurances that I'm not going to be vi

I forgot two more suggestions: One is to find a writing buddy. Edit (and by that, I mean critique, not rewrite) each other's work, and offer comments back and forth. Establish some ground rules so that you don't get angry at each other.

Many of the sentences in this paragraph suffer from one of the following defects: poor grammar, redundancy, excessive jargon, excessive use of metaphor ("as a toy ... dodo's game ... chips on the table", "gearing up to bet big"), and spelli
