On the other hand, this is a very public issue, and (as of writing) at least 32 people want to know his opinion. So, by community decision, I'd say that this post is appropriate.

Aside: I think it would be better were the animals the other way around: sheep aren't very smart (they have a tendency to start following one another for no real reason and this can quickly build up into a stampede) but goats are intelligen

Incidentally: for those wondering about the name and logo: “Three measures of Gordon’s, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it’s ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon peel.” http://en.wikipedia.or

I'm fairly sure that GitHub counts languages by projects, not by files. So a few JavaScript files inside a Ruby project would not affect the ranking.

Because there's already a Stripe. Doesn't mean you couldn't start a company to do what Stripe does, but it'd be hard, since people would probably be saying, "Isn't that what Stripe does?"

I don't believe that's true. It's dated October 17, 2011. (I agree about the gender of the author, though.)

To an extent, you're right. But SICP already covers most of the concepts of these languages -- it just chooses to cover them all in Scheme, with a functional bias. I don't see why differing syntax should affect the teaching of the concept

If Cambridge made a textbook of this, and did it right, it could be a very effective replacement for the great, but ageing, SICP.

I'm fairly sure that most of that 48x difference will come from the fact that you're using C++. I tested it in Scheme, a much slower language. (Actually, it was in Arc, which compiles to Scheme, but is still even slower.)

Plan isn't done yet. You can see the preliminary Ruby implementation at http://github.com/dpkendal/Plan , but I'm now working on a "final" version in RPython to be compiled by PyPy. The download and docs links are there to show what the we

Thanks! However, I'm not quite convinced. I ran the given Scheme implementation with k=10000 and it correctly reported all the numbers at http://www.kobepharma-u.ac.jp/~math/notes/note02.html less than 4294967087 as composite. (4294967087

I don't see the problem. They're only blocking the terms from suggestions and requiring you to hit return to finish your search for these. As long as you can still get the same results, I'm happy. This post should probably be retitled to "G
