Pretty sure they didn't purchase Nik Software to compete with Instagram and Facebook; I think the iOS app was secondary. Looking at the history that Nik has, as well as the other products they acquired, it seems like photo editing in genera

Yes we do. Personally, I still haven't found a workflow that works well for me. I've been looking for over 10 years now too.

While true, I'm still interested in how a model with this many variables is created and run. It seems rather difficult (read: impossible) to model a global economy in my opinion.

This seems like an interesting idea, and the cert is for www.barackobama.com, so in theory, it's legit.

Everything should be debated. It ensures that you get the best possible product. We may agree on something, but if no opposing views are given, how do we know it's the best?

My problem with TDD is that I never know what I need to test, until I've at least started spec'ing the project, and I don't do that on paper. I do that in code.

How do you know Google/Microsoft won't either?

They do now. Doesn't necessarily mean that in 5 years they still will.

With an internet connection like that, CrashPlan might be more interesting. The fact that you could back up to a friends computer would be nifty to test.

Are we really getting back to the "post everything from 37signals.com" track? Blargh.

This seems, on the surface at least, very similar to what ScraperWiki is trying to do, by converting messy publicly available data in to a more structured format. Am I correct in that understanding, or did I miss the boat?

So, the TL;DR version of this is: we stopped using CouchDB because it sucked, but we took all the things that made it great, and shoe-horned them in to MySQL, while negating using anything that an RDBMS is designed for, like joins...

If you're taking nude photos of your wife with an app that is specifically known for sharing photos, you're doing it wrong. 99% of people are probably very happy that their uploads don't take 5 minutes once they hit save. To them, it's wort
