A combination of increasing electricity consumption per capita combined with a lack of investment is a perfect storm for wildfires.

Imagine that self-driving cars are a long way off from being reality because the AI isn't quite good enough to distinguish and classify objects in corner cases - of which there must be numerous. This would suggest these captcha tests a

100% Mechanical cameras are amazingly resilient. Nikon F and F2 models will last a very long time. And rumor has it, Nikkor lenses from pre 1967 get better with age.

This could be an amazing idea or a terrible one. Especially if financial products can be built on top of Miami Coin ($MIA) which would allow speculators to effectively short Miami. While Mayor Suarez could be correct that it $MIA can earn m

Yes, I realized that once I submitted the comment it could be interpreted that I was suggesting Dogecoin is a scam when actually I just think it is dubious.

I guess that is the worry of any government: money that could fuel the economy gets spirited away into dubious Crypto ventures - e.g. Dogecoin. BTC might be old news but it isn't a deliberate scam.

This is great. My dad planted a redwood in plot of land he wanted to use to grow vines. It was too step for vines so he planted hundreds of trees (Chilean Beech) and a single Wellingtonia.

Sure, there are substantive differences between Crypto and Cannabis, the point I was trying to make is that Bitcoin is beyond the tipping point. The point that makes sense to bring it into the fold. Secondly, if the USA is seen to be focuss

Obviously HN community is down on crypto. This exemption is a sign that Bitcoin is getting closer to the mainstream of finance. Like most flanker-moves, Governments should be incorporating it in to their tax policies rather than shunning it

Basically, ride the wave while it lasts. And that CEO should suck it up and pay market rates, why else did he raise all that VC money?? To spend it on swanky offices and aws compute?

I guess high salaries paid by funded startups offset the risk that the company will flame out in 3-5 years combined with scarcity of developer talent - which in itself is driven by lots of VC money sloshing around. When the money dries up,

I am not even sure it decreases the cost of staying. Hotels are remarkable value except during peak season, and even then airbnb are also expensive. No financial benefit to the tourist.

Yes, the Rapid 38 Muni takes 30 minutes to go downtown from my nearest stop while the regular 38 Muni does it in 32 minutes from a stop that is 2 minutes closer to my house. And that is on a route with dedicated bus lanes. Crazy that the Ra

I am generally against airbnb as it induces rent-seeking behavior. This is bad for the economy because you are not adding value (in an economic sense). Plus the added dis benefits if increasing rent, reducing housing supply, etc. Ultimately
