"qwe123QWE!@#" is only nice until you look at the keyboard. First three qwerty letters. First three keys just above them. Then the same shifted.

Gavin isn't the founder. He's the current maintainer of the open source software. The founder was Satoshi Nakamoto who is apparently no longer involved with the project.

A function has an effect. It can be annotated as 'impure' or 'unsafe'. Any function that is not annotated in that way is considered pure. Pure functions that return a boolean value can be used in the typestate system (ie. typestate calls mu

I consider ATS [1] a systems language and it can be used at the write-a-kernel level. It can be used without a garbage collector using linear types to ensure memory is deallocated. One of the contributed examples is some kernel development

Mozilla WebM support was developed 'behind closed doors' and 'dropped' into the open on announcement day. You're right that it's not the norm and the developers are generally opposed to that approach though.

This is the Mozilla bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455165 I know you know this, but for everyone else, Firefox doesn't play chained ogg files. Icecast uses this feature. If the icecast stream doesn't use chaining then i

I used hg-git to convert Mozilla's mozilla-central mercurial repository to git. It did the job and the resulting working tree checked out from git was the same as the mercurial one. With another tool I tried this wasn't the case. It did use

It's not possible to include extra information like 'shipping address' in a bitcoin transaction, unless that transaction is sent to an IP address (vs sending to a bitcoin address).

Yes you can. There are mining pools that work cooperatively and share the resulting generated block. See http://mining.bitcoin.cz/ and http://www.bitcoin.org/smf/index.php?topic=1458.0 for two different approaches.

bitcoin generation is rate limited such that one 'block' is generated every 10 minutes or so. Generating a block produces 50 coins. As more computation comes on board the difficulty increases to try and keep the average around that.

Coin generation rate is tied to the amount of computing resource in the network. So if you bring a cluster online the difficulty to generate coins increases. EC2 machines are a bit too slow to generate coins in a timely manner. Even a clust

Use of liboggplay has been dropped in favour of implementing Ogg support directly using just libogg, libvorbis and libtheora. The WebM support is implementing using libvpx (Google's VP8 reference decoder library), libnestegg (a WebM contain

Safari uses Quicktime for their HTML 5 video. Any Quicktime codec works. For example you can install XiphQT and get Theora support. Opera (on Linux only) supports any GSteamer installed codec IIRC.

Even if it allowed interpreters the iOS doesn't allow just in time compiling - you can't dynamically generate and execute code. This means V8 can't be used since it doesn't have an interpreter and Trace Monkey would do no tracing.
