This has already been done by JSCocoa. http://inexdo.com/JSCocoa It's only interesting because Apple is officially doing it themselves.

Also, people at Apple like Objective-C and its Smalltalk influences. For those of us who've been in the NeXT/Apple ecosystem a long time, it's clear that employees at Apple see Ruby as more interesting than say Javascript because of the Sma

Yeah, Herb Sutter can GFHS. We use C for good reasons. C++ is not an upgrade, it is a completely different language. I just remembered Microsoft wrote this scathing document: C++ for Kernel Mode Drivers: Pros and Cons http://msdn.microsoft

We just can't be fucked to implement C11 support I thought Microsoft refusing to update their decades behind, ancient C compiler was just to piss me off and make life difficult cross-platform developers that need to work in C. Interesting

It sucks when hard drives fail, but it isn't that "uncommon" for drives to fail in under two years. A lot of disk manufactures only offer a 1 year warranty for a lot of their models nowadays. Google did a study on failure rates: http://sto

Pretty awesome. But maybe not a surprise to those who've been battered by Dalvik (it sucks) and those who know LuaJIT (known to rival and beat optimized C code).

I think this would work great for finding elite soldiers that you need to follow orders without question. However, for a business, demanding they drink on their knees or like dogs is insulting and I rather have somebody stand up and object.

There was nothing like that when I went to school. Looks like a fluff course to me. (Maybe that book might be worth reading on your personal time.) Engineering at all big schools I know about required more courses than other majors so it wa

Because Java set itself up for failure. Java _can_ theoretically be faster than optimized C code, but the problem is that people over-promised and/or believe this would be the common case. Sun/Oracle failed to deliver a JIT that outperforme

Appcelerator Titanium is not a cross-compiler. In fact, you missed this entire category of "native" apps. They embed actual Javascript interpreters in your app to run your Javascript. They provide bindings in Javascript to native APIs so yo

I don't think the perceived problem actually exists. I have never heard anybody claim coding will solve the world's problems. Nor does there seem to be a statistical change in the number of Americans entering science and engineering. The nu

Again, be careful here. There is an easy risk that you will over-estimate how much of a commitment your VC actually has in you. Guy Kawasaki lists this in his 10 Mistakes too, Item 11: Assuming that your VC will truly add value.
