You can always redirect your depression into constructive optimism by working to help ensure that eventually, our descendants might have a chance to be able to do so.

Calling numerical computation software as a "code" seems to be pretty common terminology for people who aren't primarily software engineers.

I know that's what those are supposed to mean, but that's not how the average poster on social media seems to use it. Like with my example of the SpaceX landing failure, it was a booster that had flown over 20 times, had flown a t

I'd like to counter this, but yeah... lots of people just throw "woke" and "DEI" around for everything not good, it's extremely painful to see. - Boeing sucks at building stuff: blame woke hiring - SpaceX has a

Accusing me of taking issue with Elon's ownership is funny, considering that usually I'm accused of being an Elon shill :)

Musk is pretty clear about the fact that Shotwell handles the 'boring' operational stuff, so, F9, FH, and very likely includes Starlink now. These have customer-related constraints, which Gwynne is much better at handling. Elon do

Neither Sunita, nor Butch are candidates for Artemis missions. They are both very experienced senior astronauts in their early 60s (kind of why they were chosen to be test pilots). This was likely to be one of their last trips to space as N

It was a disaster for Boeing, it was not a disaster for the astronauts. Extending stays at the station is not unheard of for test flights, the Crew Dragon test flight also involved the crew staying longer than initially intended, as NASA de

There were issues with Boeing's Starliner that made it difficult for NASA to quantify the risk of bringing the test crew back on it. NASA still believed that the risk was likely to be negligible, but since they had the option of taking

"Rescue" conveys a much more negative situation than "unplanned itinerary change where the astronauts are safe and which they are happy about because they get to spend more time in space".

Man the reporting on this ordeal has been so awful and so representative of how media misleads the public into thinking things are worse than they actually are. It isn't a rescue mission, it's a regular crew rotation mission with

Altman projects more Bankman-Fried vibes to me than Musk vibes. A common sentiment about SpaceX and Musk is that the employees also believe in the mission of making space accessible and going to Mars. Musk has been consistent on that being

Yeah, I suppose that would be an issue for creative writing. My focus is mostly on scientific writing, where such mannerisms should be less relevant than precision, so I didn't consider that aspect of other kinds of writing.

That's a fair point, I only very recently found that LLMs could actually be useful for editing, and hadn't really thought much of using tools for that kind of thing previously.

LLMs are surprisingly capable editors/brainstorming tools. So, you're missing out in that you're being less efficient in editing. Like, you can write a bunch of text, then ask an LLM to improve it with minimal changes. Then,

Yeah, this is how I use it too. I tend to be a very dry writer, which isn't unusual in science, but lately I've taken to writing, then asking an LLM to suggest improvements. I know not to trust it to be as precise as good research

Crazy how Trump pitching to revive Star Wars, Musk stating the obvious fact that it'd take much longer to get a nuke to Mars is all it takes for you supposedly smart people to devolve into Jewish Space Lasers tier conspiracy theories.

In my experience, the thesis doesn't properly test the skills involved in being a researcher. All it shows is that you've done some research, and that you can write and talk about it given a large amount of prep time and guidance.
