In addition to the observations of this article, I can say from first hand experience the Dept Homeland Security jumps on the term "hacker" when they are reviewing your visa situation upon arriving (back) into the USA from a foreign visit.

From what I can see, this is just for AdSense based PPC. Is AdWords analysis in the pipeline? Also, can anyone tell me the attraction of AdSense (for the advertiser) over just using AdWords as I've never found the former to perform as well

Don't forget with AWS offering GPU instances, this stuff is also becoming close to "cracking-as-a-service". While unethical (perhaps, to be debated) you could even create a startup in this arena just to do this.

I guess I'm like Fred Wilson who said "Why would anyone want to rent someone's couch" - I'm probably out of touch or just mildly privileged. But the idea of sleeping on some stranger's couch doesn't appeal at all (plus the unknowns like cle

Coupon codes. You see them around, although when I signed up I found a 'hack' that showed a list of the possible corporate coupon codes you could use and I iterated through to find the ones with the best terms (this was a few years ago) Y

This is one of those ideas which wins hearts at a conference like TC but I don't get in terms of practicality. Aside from the issues already stated, let's consider: Keeping the key in the car (if you want to use their preferred auto-key-bo

The whole idea of the "eG8" is offensive both on the one hand to the concept of the real G8, and on the other hand to the accordance by which matters pertaining to the politics of the Internet should be debated. The G8 is a group of elected

I've not up or down voted you but it's pretty obvious to me why you are being down-voted: As you can see from the debate at the top of this page, it's disrupting the regulation of the cab industry which is about creating artificial scarcity

Indeed there's no addressable need here for cab companies to find passengers when there are not enough cabs to begin with.

Why would Heroku let you be an add-on provider in order to under-cut their pricing model? Makes no sense.

What happens when Heroku bans requests coming in from your IP address? I actually think it would be reasonable and justifiable for them to do it too, given that you are preventing a revenue aspect of their business model. Heroku's pricing h

As I said elsewhere, if they gave up the trademark, someone else would probably register it and do the same. Thus hate the game.

Unless someone else was threatening to trademark it instead. I have personal experience of someone having to trademark something simply because if they didn't the other party was going to and then they'd have no choice but to lose all right

Here's a sideways look at this: If you have a trademark you are legally required and compelled to go after anyone who is infringing on it. Otherwise it is deemed that you have let it lapse into the public domain. enter debate on tradema

Video and computer games arguably look better on a glossy screen. A lot of people play games on their computers. Even in the mac world, I can see why Apple have gone glossy even though for the HN-type crowd matte makes more sense.
