Though not directly related, I wonder how much web hosts like DO and Dreamhost take idle VPSes into account when thinking about their business. I imagine they're counting on some percentage of their users with the hobby plans to just h

Yep - don't know about the rest but my former employer, Morgan Stanley, has a mandatory vacation policy (MVP) in place. You must take two consecutive weeks off per year.

Anyone notice the small bugs from 0:25 to 0:32? I wonder if those were predators or some type of helpers - comb cleaning if you will.

+1 on thinkpads. Been using a X230 for three years on Linux Mint. Used a T410 on Ubuntu before that. Aside from the very rare fail on wake from a suspend, it's been great.

Can someone compare this framework to Django or Rails? Java was my first language and I sorely miss a lot of aspects in it. Would be interested to know about the learning curve, performance, and ORM.

Pencil is awesome. Being a fulltime Linux user, finding a Visio like diagramming tool is hard to find. I used Pencil to draw and maintain a finite state machine for a startup I was working on. Best of all, it is free.

I wonder if there's a cool data science project here. On a repeat basis: take a picture at night, do some basic CV on it, and output an occupancy rate. Might be interesting for some of the luxury buildings you've noticed.
