Woah, that belt chain tensioner on the GPI... very nice solution to a common belt drive issue! Thanks for the link, I'd never heard of these folks. Love seeing innovation like this in bicycles.

Perhaps the emergency communication with satellites is a handshake, and the "test" mode for the beacons simply doesn't complete the handshake?

You know damn well there's a new "Staff Engineer" at Apple who fluffed this "algorithm" up as an argument for a promotion from Senior Engineer. And likely a few product folks and managers who ballooned this entire p

Seeing news like this makes me sad initially because it feels like every "decent" tech company out there (Mozilla, Wikipedia come to mind) keeps getting sucked into culture wars that distract from their core missions. Take a step

Flats are increasingly popular for touring as well. Turns out that unless you're trying to maximize efficiency at race levels, flats work pretty damn well. And even for racing, the value of clipless pedals is dubious compared to a dece

I would guess the Priority 600X adventure: https://www.prioritybicycles.com/products/600x As far as I know, that's the only mountain bike sold with a pinion + belt drive stock.

Interesting read, though the writing itself is ironically quite clunky for an article about writing. It's bad enough that I still suspect it might be written by an AI. It's worth noting that technical writing is basically two

Ironically, they just cancelled Westworld before the intended final season. Not exactly a "consistent quality" show, but HBO does cancel some stuff, too. But it is not nearly as bad as Netflix's track record of killing show

Maybe you should get your friends on Signal, and use their (E2EE!) Stories instead, if that's the only feature that matters to you?

The product mentioned in this post, Haven, seems very much like a self-hosted (optionally cloud-hosted, for a fee) 2010-era Facebook to me. The distributed nature suggests that it won't go down the Facebook path.

Which ad filters block facebook ads? IIRC a few years ago they had a surprisingly robust ad-blocker-blocker technique, using a crazy stacked div strategy to hide ad text.
