I came to the same conclusion about using Amazon payments for everythingfunded.com (my crowdfunding site). After testing on the sandbox and moving to a production payment account, I got the same letter. "We are currently not on-boarding any

Not having been to the olympics before, an important detail is how far this 'zone' covers. I am going to assume its a significant number of blocks, maybe even a mile, around the olympic venues that include everyday businesses that people us

What would a password bankruptcy pattern look like? One thought is to invalidate all passwords and fall back on email password recovery when a login is attempted. This leads me to an idea I've tried once - if access to the inbox is equivale

Thanks for doing a quick benchmark. In my frustration I may have misremembered the amount of time the indexing takes, but the number of seconds really a distraction from the post. Its the principle that the next read operation time is so wi

Paypal's two-factor authentication, a hardware token in my case, has a screen to enter the security code but a link that says 'i dont have my token with me'. Clicking on that link prompts for the answers to two 'security questions'. Answer

The title is disturbingly close to "Fix windows with this one weird trick." A couple years ago I googled for "windows vista thrashing" and found a number of good guides that say what services to turn off and it was a huge performance boost.

The documents are simple and small. Maybe 15 keys and short string values like datetime and latitude/longitude. 20,000 documents should be nothing but adding that much then doing a read triggers a view reindexing that was taking minutes .

Using map/reduce has taught me where RDBMS systems excel and what I've taken for granted. Its the simple master/master replication feature that is very attractive. RDMBS emphasises perfect consistency when eventual consistency is a better t

The ratio of write/read does not seem to be the problem. After a certain amount of write traffic the view indexing and storage problems appear - regardless of the amount of read traffic. More writing means more of 1. and 2. and the more lik

Sorry for the slow performance, its a very tiny fanless ITX server on a not-too-performant rails blogging app (typo). The traffic seems to have died down now.

I agree its maddening to be locked out of gmail for no specific reason. I imagine the customer to employee ratio is a billion to one, so even if they had a ticket system, it'd be overwhelmed in a short amount of time. What are the chances y
