I'd love to see the specifics of these players. Facebook targeting is actually more effective in many cases then google (I don't even use facebook personally or have the app myself). A lot of the claims by folks fall apart when yo

It was made a lot harder by their efforts around intentional breakage. You couldn't do import from past (ie, to get print "" working). You couldn't do u'' to get unicode compatible string handling between both

You fail to understand that they purposely broke compatibility for no benefit. That is not improving the language - that is being stupid. In python 2 you could specify a unicode literal with u''. So a natural evolutionary option i

Similar story here, 3.5 was first version that was even practical to really consider (they kept on making the compat story a bit better because they FINALLY listened to folks). I really wish you and others had more luck earlier, the transit

That's not the way it worked. You couldn't migrate your code until your libraries had migrated. They didn't always want to migrate because their userbase was generally mostly on 2. This is what worries me - the lack of unders

Take a read here. Py3 was supposed to better - but in a LOT of use cases this better turned out to be "miserably slower". So you were asked to do a lot of work to get your code to run slower. File handling in the new unicode world

Web developers re-write their entire stack all the time. In a business with tons and tons (and tons) of little apps and services and command line tools etc, NO ONE wants to (or can) go through all this stuff to update it because someone dec

Agreed completely. There were so many routes forward that didn't involve breaking everything but still would have allowed fewer unicode bugs (maybe). And they could have done a lot more to make the transition easier if they wanted to -

Apple has made a decision not to target folks who want direct downloads. They are targeting a different (and very large and lucrative group). They've also managed to block direct download of built in / unremovable apps by carriers

Exactly this. I pretty happily try out subscription apps on iOS (which I rarely to never do online). Why? It's darn easy to cancel. I get a reminder in advance even. This contrasts in my experience with nearly EVERY other auto-billing

This article is pretty interesting. - Supposedly Amazon has operated things like AWS at a loss for long periods of time (I highly doubt this - AWS has never been cheap). "And it's through this mass adoption of Alexa devices that c

Fair point - checking the local repair places to me - they all actually lead with apple repairs in terms of being able to give a price / in stock etc. LG I guess they need to order LG Tab 10.1 - they were not actually stocking parts

The more I hear other engineers discuss this type of thing on HN the more I realize how unique apple is. They look at their products as a whole. So in the apple model, hardware and software run together. Seeing this with my parents and when

It's much easier to do battery replacements on apple products then almost any of their competitors. Seriously - you can go in and just pay them to do it. It's something like $99 for parts and labor all included for ipads. What oth

Every other marketing option also is arbitrary. A social influencer doesn't owe you a low price, they will charge what they can. Google will charge what it can for CPA etc.
