It is slower than we'd like it to be but the breakneck pace of the first couple of years with a new hero ever 3 weeks wouldn't have made sense in the long term either. It was necessary early on to fill out the roster but what the

zsh supports extracting options from the command's --help output and it even recognizes when FILE or DIR is specified as the argument for an option. There is probably something like that for bash too.

That's a different kind of bootstrapping though. The OP is about building up to a toolchain from almost nothing using only source code and only relying on some tiny binaries that could be hand-assembled or verified. And it also uses a

"busybox vi" is another option in these situations when that's available. It will happily run in a blank chroot. Everybody should know a little ed though, it's not that hard.

For me ssh to access my main Emacs session is a big part of it but I also run some shell scripts and CLI tools and services written in Go. ssh-ing back into the phone for file transfer is another important use.

Once there is no way to run Termux that will be the end of the line for me and I've been on the Android train since the G1 days. I am ok with installing it from F-Droid or adb as long as it remains runnable. (I guess I am in the bargai

YAML sucks but so does TOML, especially when it comes to nested data structures like the layout.yaml shown on the front page. There are no good configuration languages in existence and there never will be. We have rejected Lisp/sexp so

I actually like the current BGG UI a lot. It certainly has its quirks but it could be SO MUCH worse. It is definitely more enjoyable to use than most "modern" websites out there. Clear textual links rather than figuring out myster

1995 the state of the art WM was probably GWM which was fully programmable in a Lisp dialect. You could even draw your window decorations in Lisp using various primitives. It was never widely used though.

EXWM does some special stuff though. It maps X11 windows in a way that they appear to be Emacs buffers and are managed as such. It also optionally captures certain input from them so that Emacs sequences (for example stuff prefixed by C-x)

I dread the day when I will be forced to switch since there is nothing like EXWM for Wayland and it's hard to see how such a thing could be implemented. I don't care for "smooth" or "every pixel is perfect" so

I use this snippet in my .zshrc to make M-v enter copy mode and start scrolling up like it does in Emacs: tmuxup(){tmux copy-mode -u} zle -N tmuxup bindkey '^[v' tmuxup The advantage of this is that you don't

Native Linux games break too, especially older ones. I have had to switch to Proton for several games I used to run native because their native version has stopped working after some library change. At this point I have more faith that a ga

That's not always as trivial as it sounds. One of the first Go programs I wrote back in the 1.0 days was a tool to detect hanging NFS mounts by doing a statfs on each mounted filesystem and reporting the ones where the call wouldn'

There is also a unique application ID string but unfortunately that's not displayed, probably in the name of "user friendliness". Just showing that in the play store alongside the app name would go a long way.
