See also Red Swoosh. Or the S3 bit torrent support. Hosted perr to peer distribution is/was a reasonable idea. But the adoption/efficiency/variability costs dont appear to be compelling compared to the “dirt cheap” HTTP CDNs

As others pointed out there are fundamental problems with the system and usability of NOTAMs. Its a little absurd that theyre always used to blame the operator (“should have read the NOTAM”) when a flight briefing might have 10s or 100s app

Straying pretty far of off topic, but... in the trading house story why not just act as a market maker or counter party? Ignoring the fee structure and leverage the complaint appears to be that they simply took the deposits and did not actu

Agree servicenow is bigger than just incident & problem management. But they are very big in that area, as a subset of ITSM. As mentioned upthread I definitely see Pager Dutys move away from alerts & messaging as preliminary steps.

Youre looking at the wrong market. Pagerduty is working “bottom up” in to the IT support game. The trending and business reporting tools are leading indicators of this. Im genuinely curious how long until they have pro services & billab

Interesting, ut I didnt catch what “the line” is. is the terminology related to “above the fold” and “below the fold” from the print industry? As a terminology aside online retail sales still uses “hard lines” and “soft lines” as product &

So your pricing is aligned with the storage cost. But youre explicitely not pricing in write throughput/IO access, deletes, or similar caused by lifecycle events? How does that square with long term trends to greatly increase density w

Nice take on granular cost accounting. Interesting that its per customer attribution, as opposed to per component. Need the latter to talk about efficiency and scaling. Would like to hear more about total avg cost (which they have) vs margi

I think the issues tatersolid has with linux aio is implicit dio. Thats really painful if youre working with hdd or high concurrent read scenarios. See my sibling comment for why. That leads to people implementing “async io” threadpools in

Last I looked (~4.4) linux AIO implied DIO. Conflating aio and dio is the problem, not a feature. On FreeBSD AIO works with the page cache for read and write, read ahead works, sendfile works, io & cache & readahead & size hints

That cost is definitely not bandwidth. Content delivery is around $0.005-0.01 per GB with an external provider. Less if yiu have the scale to do it in house. My guess is that the bulk of that spend is compute + storage/io.
