We went on a driving trip a couple months ago. Every single hotel we stayed in had those stupid barn door style doors on the bathroom. Not only do they leave a multiple inch gap, but are very easily opened by my curious one and two year old

Interesting. I was not aware that was a thing. Orientation info seems way less useful in a lossless format like PNG. It makes sense in JPEG for instance because rotating and re-encoding would be lossy and slightly degrade the image.

Sure, but is that down to these tactics or in spite of?
216.
by donatj 11mo ago
Do these tactics ever work out for companies in the long term? Over my 20 years in tech, I've seen a couple cases where someone installed something they shouldn't have and we got threatening emails from the companies who somehow c

They're not replaceable. That's the problem. It's not just a bulb you can replace. I have to replace the entire lighting fixture, and replacing the fixture with the OEM part is going to have the same exact issue. Replacing it

When I got my Honda van with stock LED headlights about a year ago, people started flashing me that my brights were on. After the first couple times I started flashing my actual brights back. They make the stock headlights too dang bright.

The Battle Pass in Fortnite having actual V-Bucks in it, the currency you spend to buy the pass, is some sort of psychological manipulation I don't fully understand. It works on me. Something about the idea that if I play enough I&#x27

Even so, it has intrinsic value. A gold coin wouldn't become worthless just because the government stopped you from melting it. Same goes for a zinc coin.

by donatj 11mo ago
I've got a ridiculous question, but hear me out. Pennies have more zinc in them than they are worth, right? Did the penny have any sort of stabling force against inflation… a sort of "Zinc Standard" as it were? Civil libertar

I've run into things ChatGPT has straight up refused to talk about many times. Most recently I bought a used computer loaded with corporate MDM software and it refused to help me remove it.

I stopped releasing binaries for a number of my tools because I didn't want to pay the $100 a year for the right to do so, and I got tired of explaining how to run them without signing. The post I wrote to point people at anyway: http

I'm confused about some particulars here. Who was on the hook for the bill here? The wife? What state is this? At least in Minnesota my understanding is I'm not on the hook for my wife's medical bills if she were to pass.
