At my first job, our most senior developer and my mentor was huge on Flex and instant it was going to be the next big thing. At the time I thought it was inflexible to style and felt very non-native. To be fair, it had its moment, moreso in

It really annoys me that Microsoft brought in new composers. You're so insistent on "owning" the music you give up on a major part of what made the game what it is today.

I'm kind of relieved to see that it calls out to the native git binary. There is a popular pure-Go git implementation that is in my experience very slow.

It hurts my heart so badly that when you read a post of such vintage the outward facing links are almost certainly all broken. We've lost so much.

Mind you, Microsoft already had an earlier very capable XML spreadsheet format that was much easier to parse, SpreadsheetML. Back in the early 2000's I wrote readers and writers for it and made pretty heavy use of the format at my job

This undervalues how much it depends on context, how and where you ride. Cycling is varied. My casual rides to the shop on my beach cruiser in my sleepy little town? Both my wheels could come off and I'd probably be fine. I'm rare

If the last decade is proof of anything, legislation is far too fluid to be a reliable source of any sort of protection for anything. We need real protections , that don't and can't change with the winds of political power.

I absolutely agree, and would like to add I feel like the ergonomics of the new interface are just very awkward and almost leaky. Buffered and unbuffered IO should just be entirely separately things, and separate interfaces. Then as you men

I attended Amazon Re:Invent a number of years ago and one of the keynote speakers was talking about providing medical information to law enforcement - the theory being that if they know you suffer from schizophrenia, for instance, the polic

Anything in particular you're replacing them with generally? I heard a story about replacing COBOL with JavaScript ... and my skin still crawls thinking about it.

I had my own decent into madness this spring. I slowly replaced my home network piece by piece trying to find the bottleneck that was causing my gigabit internet to top out at ~300kbps in my office on the other side of the house from the mo

I disagreed with this post, but it getting flagged is silly. It caused a TON of actually interesting conversation and debate despite the initial disgust it caused everyone, including myself.

Until there is some agreed upon open solution I don't have to pay for every month in perpetuity, and can script against as easily as reading a file from my local file system, I'll take files.

Neat, I was actually looking for something like this a few months ago to help automate part of a workflow. Be kind of nice if this also worked as a library rather than having all the workings in internal where they can't be called. Unr

Windows 11 not working on otherwise perfectly good PCs I imagine is at least a small part of it. I've got an 8-core Ryzen system I think from 2016 that's still very powerful and more than good enough for my needs, but Microsoft is

Knowing magnesium burns as brightly as it does and is so difficult to put out once lit, having done both as a kid, I'd always just assumed magnesium was the name of the paint color or something - not what it was really made out of. As

I have read much about Fibers since they were introduced and have never come up with a real use case. All the examples I find are like the trivial ones here where it just feels like instead of jamming a bunch of code into a single messy fun

One of the best interview questions I ever received, I was asked to explain how something I liked worked in detail. Could be literally anything, just break it down step by step. I was told I could use the whiteboard but didn't have to.

I feel... uneasy about the idea. Are games art? If so, are you comfortable telling artists what types of art they can create? I know not everyone is going to agree with me here but it feels like a slippery slope.
