I think it was probably more the functional programming. You can do metaprogramming even in PHP.

It was bound to happen, I suppose. I wonder if it will happen to Linux too, although I think it would be hard for malware writers to target Linux using conventional methods if users stick to using only open source software.

Those are really good points, especially the one about thirst. Guess I didn't really think this through.

I agree. Furthermore, I don't think Asian teachers necessarily have a special knack for controlling kids. I behaved well in class (I'm Asian, btw) because I knew my mother would beat the shit out of me if she heard anything bad from my teac

Given the prior assumption that introverts are generally more intelligent than extroverts, we can actually make the argument that this has already happened. For example, rather than lobbying for lower prices from Microsoft or filing antitru

So you're saying we prefer less ping/ack packets and more data packets. Put that way, it appears that the primary problem when introverts communicate with extroverts is that we use incompatible protocols. I wonder if we could write a codec

I think by definition, introverts tend to not want to run things. Introverts tend to prefer contemplation over interaction, and interference or intervention are subsets of interaction, right? Even if that weren't true, the things one has to

That depends entirely on your definition of "good software", something which the article has already addressed. Like soldiers or artists, you don't care about the opinions of civilians. You're building something intricate and fine. I thin

I've been using the HTC Dream for a couple of weeks now, and it's been pretty good so far. I haven't had to break out any hacker-fu to get anything working. Mostly I just had to download apps to do stuff. The only complaints I have are that

The discussion is not about legality. I was responding to the OP saying that we shouldn't "blame Blackboard for bad behaviour" because if they hadn't done it, then someone else would have done it anyway. Hence the analogy is valid.

Where's Linus, RMS, K&R and Guido? They're not only successful, they're also "dead" (which is a stupid label to use). I'm sure people will be studying the Linux kernel and using GNU/Linux (or derivatives thereof) and hacking in Python a

And meanwhile, before the patent system gets fixed (assuming it ever will), we shouldn't blame Blackboard if it bullies the competition out of existence? After all, if Blackboard didn't get the patent first, some other company would, and B

I can attest to that. I had to use Blackboard too when I was attending college, and it was a major pain, so much so that a sizable number of my professors preferred to just use mailing lists instead.

Uh, logic is a branch of mathematics. From wikipedia: Logic is the study of the principles of valid demonstration and inference. Logic is a branch of philosophy, a part of the classical trivium, as well as a branch of mathematics.
