Part of the trouble is that the best people are well employed and busy working. They are in high demand. They aren't going to do puzzles or beg you for a job. You have to find some way to meet them and convince them to work with you.

I find that funny because I looked into replacing my Comcast HD box with my own box and found out that it is nearly impossible. It seems like they want to maintain control over what happens with the content, and to do that, they have to pon

This announcement is contrary to a statement made in July of 2011. Do they suddenly not give a shit about other customers service if it's xbox live traffic? "If someone's behavior is such that it degrades the quality of service for others n

I'm willing to bet that this type of behavior is a lot less likely in a start up. Something about assholes and corporate jobs. I'd like to think nothing like that would ever happen where I work. Does any women on hear have any first hand ex

The free market is meant to make prices as low as possible, not as high as possible. That is why we have laws against monopolies and encourage competition. The argument that things should cost as much as people will pay for them is a pleasa

I think pg is spot on. Record companies make money on distribution. They are no longer needed. Artist always have made more money on live concerts, with a few notable exceptions. The thing record companies are trying to hold on to is contro

Thanks for posting this, and thanks everyone for upvoting it. It's even better the 4th time it's made it to #1 on hacker news. I gained some new insight into how TV sucks and the Internet is awesome.

I disagree. I'm definitely an adult and I don't think copyrighte infringement is stealing. We can have an intelligent discussion about the morality of copyright infringement, but calling it stealing is spinning.

When I worked at a consulting firm, I received a 20% bonus. It is great for retention. You are reluctant to leave in the 6 months leading up to your bonus. It's better for the employee to just get a bigger salary.
