What's wrong with honestly saying, "I worked for a small start up and we didn't have titles". Why do you have to pretend it was something it wasn't?

I don't think he cares about open source. He's saying it isn't free software.

If effort has been made to obfuscate code, then it's not free software. Free software doesn't hinder your ability to share, run, modify and or share modifications. That's what makes it free.

Maybe that is why, maybe it isn't. The problem is, when most of the population doesn't have disposable income, it makes it much harder to go out and make money in a productive way. Of course, there is always scamming. That works in any econ

I don't know about "easily". If you take a higher level view, like the entire internet, then you will see that most sites have a similar usage pattern. How many have the opposite problem? I guess as we move towards a more global economy it

Why not? Unless you have something better to work on, I'd say go for it.

The title is very misleading and should be changed. It sounds like Google is telling the developers of apps that they can't use open source licenses, when it's actually google as a company develops the Android OS in private, then releases t

Is this really just a facebook problem? Isn't it a problem for any client side service that is used across the web? Analytics packages, ad software, value add stuff like disqus, etc.

Google claims that they do not use or keep this information for anything. When they talk about for debugging purposes, they probably mean their web access logs. http://www.google.com/support/+/bin/static.py?page=guide.cs&...

I always thought that CTS was caused by the muscles in the wrists being over developed. But I just read the Wikipedia article[0], and it seems that there is no evidence that CTS is related to typing. I'm not sure if wrist health can be help

I live in the Boston area and would say the BART is more like the commuter rail then the subway. I pay $7.25 each way and there is virtually no discount for a monthly pass considering there are usually 20 work days in a month. If you work f

I hate patents as much as the next guy, but to imply a patent is less valid because it was purchased is bunk. Part of the value of patents is that the inventor can sell them. If they aren't as compelling after being sold, then the inventor

Except that copyright infringement is definitely not theft. The owner doesn't lose his documents. It's fine if your opinion is that copyright infringement is wrong, but let's not call it by inappropriate names.

Not if you consider the resolution would be much higher then anything technically feasible. You might not now what you want to focus on before hand, but if the system is setup you can go back and decide what to look at.

I think it's a great idea. It would cost me more then $9/mo to setup a box(VPS). Not to mention the hour+ it would take to actually set it up(my time isn't free). Backup isn't a huge issue since it's git and presumably you have multiple

A little competition for http://hn.embed.ly ? Heh. We think rich data makes much better previews then screenshots. What does HN think about this site vs. hn.embed.ly?

Every site is different and some don't even offer oEmbed. A ton of work has gone into embedly. You can repeat the effort, and host your own solution, or just use us. We think using Embedly is a cheaper solution.
