The Hyatt Regency disaster was not the equivalent of missing a semicolon, that makes it sound like an accident. Procedures were not followed. A load bearing component was modified without proper testing/analysis.

I went and read that today because of your comment. I found it interesting and frightening in a paradoxically mind bending kind of way. However, it did seem a bit unbelievable that 300 years into the technology and there were no safeguards

I also quit fb in 2017. A large part was the arrogant attitude shared by many of my young peers like OP. Another factor was the over-sweetened coolaid. Fb is not the end-all, be all. It's a great place, sure, but there are smart teams

Couldn't one argue that the oil and gas industry is on the way out itself? I know that may come off as a bit naive. My anecdotal experience leads me to believe that the oil and gas industry isn't exactly pushing the envelope techn

I never said SF was the only way to launch a career and tend to agree with you. Still, there is no denying the power of having a big name on your resume when looking for the next job.

I just switched our small company over to gitlab over the last couple weeks. So far the experience has been great. It seems like a really solid piece of software.

I think GP is making the point that Kary Mullis isn't really a notable psychedelic explorer - just some scientist that took a large dose LSD. If you read into some of the notable figures of the psychedelic movement you will learn that

It's also funny that the author mentions Ram Dass who tells the tale of tripping on LSD for several weeks at a time in his book 'Be Here Now. In his biography 1000ug is painted as child's play for some of the early explorers.

I really don't understand why Dropbox is trying so hard to be more than they are - A file syncing service. That's all anyone wants out of them. They sync files, that's all they do, and they do it well. No one wants them to be
