Unfortunately, the NYT article is vague on how each of the approved device makers were using the data -- they only say "some partners" stored the data. But it doesn't seem like Apple in particular used the API in that capacit

Personally, I think the last few years have seen more issues with brigading and bad / unethical subreddit moderators. But other than that, I agree completely.

While other commenters have given excellent answers, I just want to point out that these numbers probably fall out of the Mathis model of TCP throughput. Here's an article on the topic: https://blog.thousandeyes.com/a-v

Thank you for this. The title oversells its scope/importance by a fair margin. I hope it is unintentional and not a purposeful tactic...

You're not wrong. Interview from 2004 [0]: "DragonFly split off from FreeBSD-5 over major architectural differences, not anything else. We really do feel that FreeBSD-5 is taking the wrong approach to SMP and building something

Dragonfly also has lightweight kernel threads and some other different architectural decisions. Not just HAMMER. But you are right, it will never reach Linux.

I had an Impossible Burger that was cooked like a smash burger, and it was excellent (9 out of 10). I'm not confident that I could tell the difference with an actual beef patty in a blind taste test. They nailed the texture, the flavor

Can you explain what Wyden's involvement was in the letter writing campaign? He is not listed in the signatures of the letter in the article you linked. Unfortunately, I do not have access to the financial times article, so I can'

The redesign can still hurt snapchat even if no users leave. Personally, before the update, I would look at the snapchat discover stories every day. Now I find the page so appalling to scroll through I don't navigate to it anymore. I t

Middleboxes are machines somewhere along the path (when you're sending to a particular destination) that drop, filter, bandwidth shape, or otherwise edit your traffic. Basically anything besides packet forwarding.

For what it's worth, I see the complaints of no generics and error handling quite often. A hacker news search for "golang generics" yields over 300 results -- of course, not all of them are complaints, but many are.

I have no stake in this debate, but "the trumpist playbook" remark was unnecessary. There's no need to politicize this, and Trump does not have a monopoly on ad hominem attacks or fallacies in general.

I see your point with the OPM. Your analogy is logically consistent, but I still don't find it to be realistic. Equifax fits into the relatively tidy box of credit reporting, identity theft protection, and maybe a few other services th

I disagree with your analogy. Obama's job concerned way more things than the OPM. However, it was Katherine Archuleta's only job to lead that organization. When considering the OPM only, Archuleta was much more akin to the CEO t
