Everything is fine with Chrome 5.0.307.9 beta on OSX, except if Chrome has been open a long time, I eventually lose the ability to right click on my username on the upper-right hand corner of the HN website.

I used to think that .. Until I turned '30 and realized I'd given more than 1/2 of my life to a career that I now find rather unfulfilling financially, intellectually, and personally.

This is clearly part of a wider conspiracy of mid-level managers to convince their employees to work themselves to death eschewing family, friendship, and life goals.

Reading through that article a couple of times was like a high school student attempting to write in the spirit of Kafka. It almost feels like an urban legend amongst geeks.

Techcrunch's problem is a far smaller and simpler one than Wordpress's. Four or five ISP switches now, and it's clear with each move that they are grasping at straws, hoping to just throw money at the problem and it will go away. Websites d

This means that Techcrunch is down, and @arrington is gearing up for a nervous breakdown after his 4th or 5th provider switch in 2 years. Eventually I would think that they would belly up to the bar and implement a redundancy solution that

Why? Crimes against government agents are prosecuted far more severely than crimes against the common man. If you rob a post office at gunpoint, it's a federal felony, with more extreme punishments than if you rob a corner store at gunpoint

The title makes me think that if you make these errors, lives will be at stake. Sadly, the title is more interesting than the article.

Synchronous or Asynchronous? Honestly I don't have use for more than 10mbps or 20mbps downstream. I'd kill for 100Mbps upstream, though, so I could either back up all of my media on a remote server, or just store all of my media on a remote

I think he's trying to say that "being there feels magical". Like walking around, looking at all of the drunk, white, upper middle class people who were ridiculously elated after the election was called for Obama. Mass hysteria?

I can think of more than a few TED talks that just wouldn't have translated without the oral and verbal clues. The joy in Erin Mckean's voice when saying synecdochically or erinanceous would be completely lost in text.

I blame the sensational state of scientific reporting. Content providers have been in a rush to scare people for as long as I can remember. It feels that anything reported on in the scientific community I read today which gets enough covera

Because what Craigslist's users really want is a completely broken spam flagging system, a mass of data that's impossible to categorize, and a lazy search system that doesn't have any useful boolean search option, and a monopoly that owns a

Don't get me wrong.. I actually liked a lot of Seattle .. At least the coffee shops, donut shops, and cupcake shops (Seattle is good at foods which cater to seasonal depression eating!).. Plus I met my two favorite Hacker News users there (

Interning for a YC startup? Seeing as YC doesn't really pay anybody enough to live in San Francisco, I have to imagine your best bet is going to be a cardboard box under the freeway in-between 2nd & 3rd and Harrison & Bryant.

This makes me wonder, has there ever been a successful YC company like WakeMate, ie that was more than just a web application? Maybe it's just a problem of WM having teamed up with an ill-suited process?
