Not really, just use Matrix and a bridge like Heisenbridge. The experience to me feels native as if the IRC users are using Matrix.

I think the main benefit of Matrix over IRC, is proper E2EE and multi device support, something that simply isn't possible for IRC clients.

The exception there is Heisenbridge if you've got your own homeserver, supports certfp, and sasl auth too so it's really just like using znc or anything else.

Who even needs a desktop environment. Sway WM, Waybar, Rofi. Rock solid, and does everything I've ever needed from it and is still a better experience on a multi-monitor setup than any DE I've tried.
