I just assume they all are. Then, when someone gives me an actually thought-out reason for why they did something and it seems plausibly pre-hoc (so to speak), I can be legitimately surprised and delighted. But in all honesty, I’m talking a

Probably doesn’t help that it seems like nutrition research does 180s every so often on pretty much every reported “finding.” That has probably as much to do with the hype surrounding actual research though, so I don’t necessarily blame the

Really? I had no idea Teetotaling was the new in-thing. Welcome, friends! (For me, it was a choice based on my own mental health plus a family history of alcoholism on both sides, but I surely never thought that not drinking would become a

I think it’s fascinating how many people are enamored by how the building looks. To me, it’s horrifically ugly, just a giant glass rectangle on squat legs. De gustibus non disputandum est, eh?

My response to post-hoc rationalizations is to stare and go, “Mmm hmmm, you have no idea do you?”

I don’t know of any teachers, who punish teenagers extra when they say they don’t know why they did something. Honestly, they’re just being honest. They really don’t know why they do impulsive things.

I’m sorry, but your comment came right after the comment thread about a guy printing gay porn and I thought you were making a joke and I was giggling about the firmware and hardware thing and then I realized you were making a serious point.

Try looking at what they say about how the Senate will work. Or about how a president would respond to impeachment, and how impeachment would work as a check.

Fun experiment to run: go through the Federalist Papers and find places where they make psychological observations/predictions about how people in government/politics do, should, or will act. Note that these observations/pred

Oh god this. I get emails from students with emoji and I very frequently have to ask them, “How are you using this one?” Of course, the fascinating thing is that different groups of kids use the same emoji slightly differently. So.

This is something I hear startlingly often. It's not the majority of kids, by any means, but I've had a number of students who fail classes so they have to go to summer school, just to escape from home.
