You're right, my first post should say exclaves and the three examples I gave are all exclaves.

Could have been an Onion article. What next, every two years Microsoft announces a new keyboard where the only change is that some "useless" keys have been removed to make way for a bigger Copilot key?

You might want to colour the exclave the same colour as the rest of its country, even though no connection can exist between them on the plane.

Four colours also isn't enough for some real-world country maps. Countries with enclaves (like Alaska, Kaliningrad or Sint-Maarten, though only the last actually makes 4- colouring impossible) change the topology: you can think of what

And you can taste/smell lots of things far below 4ppm - example: farts - so appealing to "this looks like a very small number so you must be lying to yourself" is nonsense here.

I think you're right, and integer-factorization is often used in these examples as a process that is hard to do but easy to verify. There are plenty of other processes that could be substituted in, e.g. reversing SHA256 hashes, that wo

The military doesn't rely heavily on skills developed by hobbyists. In the vast majority of cases, you learn to shoot a rifle or drive a tracked vehicle or weld a nuclear reactor at the military's expense, after enlisting, even th

Meat farming replaces artificial fertilizer, by providing a source of manure, so doesn't that relationship run the other way? But having 1/4 of the land under soy beans or other locally appropriate nitrogen-fixing plants doesn

Finland joined the EU too late and too rich, perhaps. In other countries the EU was the main source of funds for building motorways, but doesn't own them or maintain them.

If you knew all this, would you have avoided driving over the bridge? Would you have wanted the local government to close it indefinitely awaiting repairs? Let's say it would collapse with 100% certainty randomly in the next three year

I see! Seems like neither formatter is completely rigid, and both respect some style decisions made by the programmer, so this level of automated reformatting isn't possible.

You could always have your editor reformat files in gofumpt's way before viewing code or diffs, and reformat with go fmt when committing. I've never seen anyone with a workflow like this (lots of people have the second part, of co

It won't save as much as you might expect, though, because the insurance provider also knows that the people opting out of the scheme would have (on average) cost the provider less to provide healthcare for.

My preference would be not to refactor it at all. It works, you can figure out what it does, and the tests pass. Forget about it. Whoever wrote it, wrote it to the best of their ability to implement the requirements and style that existed a

Rooftop solar can't be economically efficient without subsidies of some sort. How could it outcompete the economies of scale of putting an extra 10 panels in a utility-scale installation 50 miles away? SREC is one such subsidy - which

I would prefer a solution based on multiplication than division. If the number is less than 10, return one, otherwise is it less than 100, ... You should prefer the simplest tool that can do the job. Multiplication is simpler than division.
