Wired wrote a story in March about how the public SDK terms would prevent Firefox and Opera specifically from being allowed on the iPhone... You are correct on the SDK terms, I had completely forgotten about that. IIRC, Opera would be con

One expects Opera did this largely as a publicity stunt. I think they were testing the waters to see how Apple would react to a larger and much better-known company putting a competing product into the app store. Unsurprisingly, Apple did

Agreed, it's not like this is the first time Apple has denied a "competing" application. I can't wait for Android to be released on a decent handset. Then I can give my iPhone to my wife.

There is a big difference between working AT a startup (an employee) and working ON a startup (a founder), IMO. Any chance we can get an update to reflect that? Anyways, I chose 'Working at a startup', though I'd like to someday work ON a s

I'm interested to see how the distro's manage this. Ubuntu seems to always have the latest and greatest, but I can't see them upgrading to Py3k any time soon. There's just still too much that relies on 2.x. GvR said that new stuff should be

I met my designer in 7th grade P.E. class. We were both into Pokemon at the time, and hit it off. Almost 10 years later, he's my go-to guy for anything and everything design related. http://www.artificestudios.com/

+1 on this. I recently took a job at a startup in Campbell, and the San Jose area is really nice. It's not as expensive at SF, but it's still "bay area".

I use Mac at work and Linux at home, so I'm SOL for the time being. Chrome looks nice, though, and I'll probably end up switching when they port to the platforms I use.

I was born with congenital cataracts and have had several operations on my eyes. My vision is around 20/30 with contacts, but I'm legally blind without them (20/400). I know my condition isn't quite the same as yours, but here's some advice

Hypothetically speaking, both. Those that could afford it would buy it and grumble, those that can't would use Gimp. But this is reality, and the reality is that pirating is easy to do even with all the DRM/anti-piracy stuff that is in plac

This is true, but there are many people who will always pirate no matter what. I know people who pirate everything from Photoshop and Windows to music and movies, not because they /can't/ pay, but because they simply don't want to.

"Nothing like good ol' free software to stick it to the man!" Err, that's not really the point of free software. The free software movement is more about freedom than not paying money (libre vs gratis). You really want to stick it to the ma

My "to-learn" list has three items on it, and I'm torn about which to pursue first... * Lisp (Interesting, recently bought pg's ACL) * C (Would be useful at work, recently bought K&R) * Obj-C (Have both an iPhone and a MBPro tha

If it's a *nix system, why not setup a cron job to do it for you? I have a Python script in /etc/cron.daily that performs a mysql-dump, tars it, and uploads it to S3. For total completeness and peace-of-mind, you could have the script add a
