Huh I never thought about it from that angle, I dunno. The older people in our family who retired, were forced to retire at the retirement age (e.g. 55). (Note, obviously, not everyone actually retires at the retirement age, you just legal

Note that the majority of burglaries are unreported to the police and don't show up in the UCR. You should use the Bureau of Justice Statistics for numbers on crimes with very low reporting rates.

For example: 1. You break into someone's house and steal their crypto with no violence: burglary, not robbery. 1a. If they're present in the house, it's technically a home invasion even if there's no violence. 2. You br

Home invasion isn't exactly surprising, it's about 1 million home invasions per year in the US. And violent assault of some sort during home invasion isn't super surprising, that's like O(250k) per year. But the kidnapp

Pretty much, yea. Pedantically, only the social security part of FICA is capped. Medicare you still pay 1.45-2.35%, uncapped. But the 6.2% for social security is capped, and thus for the top end of the 1% ends up being a miniscule tax. If

It works if you ignore FICA completely (which is weird because it's like 30-40% of tax collected or something), and round 45% up to 50%. If you include FICA, it's more like the top 1% of income people pay ~30% of total tax (somewh

Do you mean the non-semantic indexing, which covered most of Google Code? Like grep-style supporting, but no real semantic data? Or are you talking about the few repos that had semantic indexing via Kythe (chromium, android, etc)? We neve

My grandpa's side grew up in southern China, so that's what I originally thought. But my wife is from way northeast, and I had to begrudgingly admit that I do like the rice from up there better.
