Interesting thing about that survey is that it covers PaaS solutions (Cloud Foundry, Kubernetes, etc) on top of OpenStack. Other folks seem to be going in the other direction using PaaS to deploy OpenStack. https://tectonic.com&#

This sounds like a bluff to me. "Oh, you want fast moving changes, mobility up the stack, and centralized control? We want none of those things. Either you soften your stance and start listening or we'll fork."

This was the business model for Standard Treasury before they got acquired by Silicon Valley Bank. If you want details, you should talk with Dan Kimerling, one of the founders.

I learned about pigz in the High Performance MySQL O'Reilly book appendix. I used it, and other techniques there to improve our MySQL backup/restore time by 7x. This in turn won first place at a company hackathon.

The Little Prince, or Le Petit Prince if the recipient is a francophile. A wonderful story that I personally try to read every year. Netflix has recent plans to release as a film as well.

I've used both. I like Terraform better as a pure CLI tool. If you like UI driven configuration, CF may be a better choice. Even if your project only expects to use AWS can you say that for certain of all your projects?

Early companies like IBM threw a lot of weight and money behind linux around 2000 or so. From there, Google and other big companies chose Linux as well. This is a large basis of engineering talent and knowledge to build upon. https:/&

All of those are good points. But a surprising number of people can't get to the starting point 2^(32-23)=512. I usually subtract 2 and say 510. No IPs are reserved for multicast. Maybe you meant broadcast?

Here are a couple I use: - How many hosts are there in a /23 network? - Estimate ping time from your workstation to your local gateway? www.google.com? Server on the east coast from the west coast? Server in Europe from the west coast?

Absolutely must separate. One reason: controlled access to prod. You cannot let any arbitrary untrusted device on your corporate network connect directly to prod instances. You rather need a VPN or other jump host in the middle. Same rules
