How can we make this happen on the US as well ?

by dmode 6y ago
There are ways to do it. Expand the court and then pass a legislation banning court expansions without supermajority

Why do each agency need their own ? For example, why can't FBI SWAT teams be also used for emergency responses for Amtrack ?

Exactly. I have been in meetings, where if I was late by responding by even a couple of seconds, some exec will jump on and egg me to respond. 99.9% of people don't have the luxury of awkward silence

I don't know what are data sources to look for real estate demand other than real estate transactions. Anyways, that's not the broader point I am making. The broader point I am making is that it was a thriving City with or without

I responded above, but look into Orinda, Lafayette, Moraga, Kensington, Albany. You can also north to Novato, San Rafael, Petaluma. Also, along the coast Pacifica, Moss Bay, Montarra, Half Moon Bay, Pescadero. I would also explore Oakland

Totally agreed. I live in a fairly rural town with forested backyards, trees, canyons and creeks and it is only 7 miles from Oakland and 15 miles from SF. Even within Oakland and Berkeley you will find enclaves which feel very rural and qui

I moved to SF in 2009 and there were very few tech companies in town and it was in the middle of recession. Even then good places had a bidding war. If you read this Bay Area housing market report[1], you will see that it still showing stre

Can you explain the math here ? If you make $500k, at 9% progressive, it will be like 6% flat with all deductions. So tax will be $30k. Then you take a 10% pay cut. So you are losing $50k. So you lose $50k, and gain $30k. That’s negative $2

Let’s face it, California is run by a bunch of faux progressive NIMBYs and their chosen politician. I live in a suburb close to Oakland and my tree lined streets are filled with BLM posters, but our state legislative rep voted against this

Never heard the slogan. The popular slogan is “defund the police” and is already been applied in the sense that some funding is being redirected to other services. SF has a police budget of $750mn and I think they are redirecting $40 mn to

I don’t understand the point of this survey. They could have also asked whether people think water is wet or not. The debate here is not about police presence, but (1) what type of presence and (2) what the alternatives are. Absence an alte

Combination of multiple reasons that are coming to a head now. Massive heat waves, long running droughts, decreasing rainfall, with more development farther out from urban core etc.

I am not saying LA public transit will ever be able to produce something like Uber, but the way they grew public transit in the last 10 years is way more complex than an app based business funded by unlimited VC capital. This includes build

I was actually off. CA is 9% of Uber's ride share and 21% of Lyft's[1]. Which would likely translate to higher revenue share. [1] https://www.sfchronicle.com/business/article/Uber-and-Lyft-r...

I think the problem is that driver’s want to remain independent, but their cost is borne by the society. Such as the recent CAREs act had unemployment for drivers. I am assuming they also get subsidized healthcare, and would be eligible for
