You should try Firefox's Smart Keywords for searching directly from the location bar: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Smart+keywords Using these, I type "gs <search terms>" for Google. I also have this set up for Wikipedia, Go

"What if I buy the phone full-price?" I ask. "Do I pay the same rates, even though I’m not getting a discount for the phone?" Yes. Same rates, even though I’m no longer amortizing a phone. There doesn't seem to be much to gain by owning

My hypothesis is that the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis is much more applicable to programming than natural language. edit: after I wrote this, I realised it's just a restatement of PG's Blub paradox.

Maybe I'm being pedantic, but you need a better explanation than you have offered olegk. Google wrote their quick link feature with the intent of applying it to all URLs they index. Torrent index sites categorise their content with the inte

The implementation details of category or quick links shouldn't matter. How do you know that a particular torrent index's frontpage category links are not also algorithmically generated?

Notice that the GMail tab is just an icon. I wonder if that's a replacement for a bookmarks toolbar? Possibly, Mozilla is planning for the tabs & bookmarks toolbars to be combined in the same way that the quicklaunch & taskbar toolb

I agree with these recommendations, but if you're trying to introduce boardgames to friends, start with one of the 'gateway games': Settlers of Catan, Ticket To Ride, or Carcassonne. T&E and PR should be saved for later.

Risk and Monopoly take so long to finish that player elimination is a necessity. Games of Settlers where one player has no hope of winning aren't common, as long as players are of relatively equal skill.

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. Risk and Monopoly have player elimination which is anti-social. Settlers also packs in way more fun per minute of time spent playing. The rules are no more complicated, either. Just make sure you're getting t

Some observations from that report: When they tested the filters they reported "less than 3.4%" of innocuous URLs were mistakenly blocked. They say this is too high (no kidding!), but that "blocking rates of below 2 percent would be conside

The point was that, for most users, Google is an abstraction over URLs, just like DNS is an abstraction over IP addresses.

Can you even get 3G data service from AT&T without first buying 'minutes' though? I can never seem to use up the minimum amount of monthly minutes so this has no bearing on my own monthly bill.

Why? What's so terrible about finding out about how those more experienced than yourself do things? I'm assuming, of course, that sound reasoning is supporting the practice rather than simple cargo culting.

I am running Windows 7 on a SSD right now. While most of the author's points aren't based on the assertion that this is impossible, such a poorly researched argument makes it hard to take the rest of the article seriously.
