We closed a huge number of bugs in 1.7, but yes there are about 100 open bugs plus another roughly 100 more that are either feature requests or unverified. For a project the size of jQuery and considering the installed base, I think that

Haha, well it has always been documented to be an Object but turns out that there are a lot of people who don't read the documentation and pass strings or numbers. So rather than break their code in 1.7 we decided to document the fact that

Sorry, they're the last thing to be done and there was a lot to document because of its API surface. Addy Osmani did a writeup a few weeks ago: http://addyosmani.com/blog/jquery-1-7s-callbacks-feature-dem...

The docs site has a "What's new in jQuery 1.7" section that might help. As far as what is non-best practice, we'll be covering some of that in a blog post next week so stay tuned.

The data feature isn't used that frequently, and when it is the best way to use it is by passing an object anyway. So although it's mentioned it is likely to be very uncommon.

You do not know how true that is. I used vi in the early 1980s for several years and then went to a job for a decade where I used another editor. Yet when I sat down in front of vim I still felt right at home. It's truly like riding a bic

Sure, HP dropping their tablet was like Microsoft dropping the Kin. That's not the part of the story that scared corporate America. It's the simultaneous news of HP telegraphing their exit from the PC market without any clear exit strategy.

Kind of funny that HP picked the $99 price point AGAIN. Bill of materials should allow them some profit on this one at least, unlike the TouchPad.

If you shut down one of the big boys like VeriSign you might as well shut down the Internet as far as someone like Amazon is concerned, since VeriSign issued their SSL. The entire ecommerce world would be at Challenger-level rationalization

Yeah, that's exactly the scenario we were expecting: HTML markup would specify some data that would be used to initialize jQuery's data object.

If by "they" you mean the W3C then yes I agree. :) The reason I wrote the post was because people see the `.data()` API in jQuery, which existed before HTML5, and think it has something to do with `data-` attributes. Indeed, we made it impo

One reason that assembly of products like phones requires human hands is simply because nobody has yet tweaked the designs and processes to make them friendly to robot assembly. There hasn't been a financial incentive to do so yet.
