The fact that 7.6 billion people live in parallel seems odd to me. I imagine humanity could achieve a lot more if every aspect of human identity was put into one individual.

Their subscription left me with a bad aftertaste as well. They "freeze" the account for a couple of days prior to and after the billing date and will not allow you to cancel in that period. So you then have to call again after the

So I will concede that it is time to bury all the XUL/XPCom misgivings. We now need to rededicate ourselves to the same extensible vision using the new stack.

Strongly disagree - I think the reason Firefox market share is in a tailspin is because once they "rationalized" the codebase by getting rid of power features - there was no moat around them to keep even simple upstarts like Edge

Sure - I can see that if we do arrive at a future where all of Firefox chrome is implemented via a HTML/CSS itself and it sits on top of a standardized core that exposes well documented APIs (which both end users and Firefox developers

I had written multiple XUL based addons that I used for personal productivity. When Firefox moved away from XUL/XPCom I think they removed not just an implementation (which I admit had many warts) but also the alternate vision of the B

I hope this goes all the way and phones get opened up to work with PCs - users have root, can install their own software, and run software written in the language of their choice.

Just want to say that this is an incredibly difficult job environment - so do not take any lack of progress personally. Persevere and follow up with people even more often than usual - interviewers / HR departments are stretched thin s

Unfortunately there is a clock penalty to using AVX-512 and it is only available on a small part of the chips that Intel ships (For the longest time it was only available on Xeons). AMD does not support AVX-512 yet. As a result no one reall

Lua runs the same risks as Scheme which is another small language - of multiple incompatible implementations cropping up because it is so easy to create an implementation. [Dont mean to downplay the difficulty of writing an implementation j

Depends on the company - in a company like Amazon where Jeff is constantly pushing the envelope - standing still is the best recipe for falling behind. And you can see a hint of this happening in the article itself - the person running Book

In the big tech companies it is much harder to make the case for incremental improvements to existing products than it is to take on new disruptive problems.

Perhaps the big winners from GPT-3 will be patent trolls? Easier than ever to mock an idea up and use the implementation to do a land grab in form of a patent? [Not saying I advocate this strategy, am just wondering if the low barrier to en

You are correct - I moved and thought the store in the new area was a ripoff before realizing that food prices are up everywhere. I buy a fair amount of Indian groceries and the prices of many staples is up ~25-30%.

I meant something like - if you have a hiring manager in a company who likes a product X, they can just go in and buy it from the store at pre-negotiated terms rather than getting lawyers and other purchasing teams involved.
