I disagree with this line of reasoning. I have seen good/bad examples on either side. I think it actually comes down to someone on the developer team having a high set of standards that they push everyone to subscribe to.

Anecdotally gcc + gdb does release with debug info builds a lot better than clang + lldb. In general quality of debug info is one place I have had fewer issues with gcc/gdb than I have with clang/lldb.

I dont think I made any references to complexity in my tweet. All I was trying to say is that the bad news with respect to C++ is priced in and the language only has to be marginally better than what its detractors make it out to be.
