I think I'm with you on this. Range is largely a solved problem now. Once a car can go 120 miles, that's 2 hours of driving, at which point you need a break anyway. My car is already nearly a 1000kg too heavy because of the bat

The light bulb rules in the UK were frequently snorted at, but everyone has moved over now, and whether it is associated with it or not, we're using less electricity these days too.

The UK plan for no ICE vehicles to be sold by 2030 is fairly ambitious. I'm seeing more and more electric vehicles on the roads, but I think some regular customers will be disappointed by how poor the infrastructure is. Not only that

I guess in most countries, you can renovate an old antique car from the 1920s and that's ok for people to drive around in. It's only a small step from that to saying that someone can upgrade an old car with a new engine and sell

I think loops are not ideal for data analysis. They are prone to human error, especially ones that modify the data, and in a way that can be hard to sort (i.e.iterating over the dimensions of the wrong object). A stepwise creation of new

I don't understand how people can loath R. If you take a functional approach, especially using pipes, dplyr and a split, apply, combine style, it is quite beautiful. Much nicer than trying to, say, divide a time period by an integer

Just to expand on your definition of a troll, as someone who grew up in the 90s and met a lot of them on usenet. The common theme I found with them was being able to carefully phrase a comment or question to maximally elicit a response. Th

He has a really good point about civilisation. The collapse of civilisation is the norm - and the Egyptians and Ancient Greece/Rome were highly advanced - it is arrogance to assume that this cannot happen to ours. He talks about simpl

I'm not sure absolutist free speech is an ideal. Would it be ok to post private pictures taken without consent of an individual? I don't ever see that being ideal. Also 'speech' can cover a lot of things. If I make a

My motorbike is required to have the essential warning and information lights in a separate independent panel to the LCD screen. Whereas my Audi e-tron, and presumably the Telsa, doesn't seem to have this requirement, with the regular

I can't read the article, but I think evidence like this is important when it comes to the whole idea of government subsidises impacting on free markets. The free market has become a bit of a religion for some (you can see in the comm

You're right that it's purely a bragging point. A status symbol, or if it's really just for personal enjoyment, then a gimmick that will amuse you the first 10 times you launch from the lights. Sure, having a reasonably quic
