They spend more than that on humans. From the ones I know, they seem to be quite smart and good at getting computers to do the computing work while the humans can think of better stuff for the computers to do.

I'm guilty of ridiculous analogies, but some of these are just beyond making sense. The one that annoyed me the most here that I saw (twice) was the parallel between layers taking you down to understanding TCP/IP and socket programming. I'

I really like my Nexus One. I got it with no cooperation from any carrier, so they have no direct influence, and the hardware is actually pretty good.

@inlineCallbacks make linear code very easy to write in twisted. Have you tried it lately? Here's a snippet of code out of my gearman implementation: @defer.inlineCallbacks def gclient(gearman): w = client.GearmanClient(

I argue that twisted is better for most practical uses of comet. Tornado mastered only the "have lots of suspended connections" thing. Many of the examples involve blocking for processing one of those connections. What's the point of havi

tornado solves one very specific problem that friendfeed had. It's being used for other problems, but it solves them less well than, say, twisted. twisted solves networking problems of all types really well, but (as Paul mentions in his po

Because I didn't read what it actually was. :) My actual birthday is in about 30 days, so when it said it was in 15, I assumed something was confused. I now see that that something is me. Perhaps it should also tell me when these two bir

Summary: ``I don't get it.'' The parts of my code bases that are the most trouble and the hardest to work with and the parts that have the least testing have the greatest overlap. I have some bad tests that fail sporadically, but I also ha

I have a non-web, non-desktop based twitter app with a couple thousand users and just haven't had the time available to figure out how to get it doing newAuth. xAuth seems like it'd work, but, as stated in the article, that involves me goin

Our workflow goes through gerrit. It's simple and I really like it that way. I don't know that this could be added to it and not make it entirely more complicated.

I created an email address a long time ago that was something like readrfc822@ just for these sites. Anyone who validates email addresses by doing anything other than sending you an email is doing it wrong.

That's just how I read this: You push at the boundary for a few years Until one day, the boundary gives way And, that dent you've made is called a Ph.D. It seems to me that calling the expansion of human knowledge a Ph.D. i
