This hi-draw mode is actually only available when on AC power. Doing anything CPU and GPU intensive will obviously increase battery draw, but these exceptionally high CPU speeds are only possible when the MagSafe connection is active.

The reason, at least in my experience, is a lot less conspiratorial than that. Most modern MacBook Pros actually have the ability to ramp up the CPU's draw when on AC power so high that even when plugged in, they will cause battery dr

Lots of people prefer to interact with their VCS tools via a GUI, and a reasonably large subset of those people prefer for the integration to be built in to their IDE/editor. Probably 60% of the people at the company I work at don'

In 99.9% of cases, true. I was just trying to point out that the comment about UI's was invalid. If your code drops down to ASM or anything like that, then it becomes an issue. But that's not most use cases.

If your business logic (Models/Controllers) are strongly decoupled from your Views, you still maintain a pretty large amount of code that becomes easier to port.

Maybe this is unique to the field that I work in, but I can pretty safely say that if our organization didn't strive to maintain 60%-80% unit test coverage at any given time, we'd have been sunk a long time ago. We don't &quo

Hmm. Well, looking at the Github repo activity, Darin is actively involved in the GHC formulae these days. In fact he's actively involved in getting Homebrew's GHC formula prepped for OS X Mavericks, which you note as an upcoming

What would prevent them? Didn't they relax the cross-compile restrictions like, 3 years ago? Adobe has a cross-compiler, that I know for sure. In fact, I did a quick Google search before submitting this reply. Relevant quote, from an

I'd argue that if you're more than 2 loops deep then you should, as I stated before, seriously evaluate your design decisions. And, should you do so and end up in the same place, you may have stumbled upon that 0.1% of the time th

This is not unique to JavaScript. You can do this in many languages, including Java. In fact, the JDK source is littered with usages of this "pattern", but with loops instead of if statements. It is frequently used as a techniq
