Given that we don't have $40 bills, I'm not sure this is a problem.

I think so, because they use stock gnome apps, Ubuntu + Gnome will keep the Unity forked versions of Gnome apps (iirc, I haven't gone this route in ~4 years, right). Plus its one less step, and if I'm trying to get someone to swit

I mean, a large number of the issues he wrote about seem directly related to Unity, even if similar problems occurred in other distros. The lack of even giving it a try just seems weird to me, given the amount of kvetching and problems the

For my personal installs I just run Arch with the latest version of Gnome stable. The reason I still suggest an Ubuntu derivative is because it's really easy to find instructions on how to do something, and their still mostly the same.

Ubuntu Gnome is my suggestion to people who want to try out Linux because it has most of the Ubuntu ease, but none of the Unity bloat.

My biggest question is why does the author keep trying to use Ubuntu and Unity, and not just switch to a different distro. My experience with Ubuntu has been really similar to his, 10.04 was the peak, I had a great setup with gnome 2, every

Where do they overlap? Or is it the product name? In which case it seems far more likely that they'll ask for the name to be changed first, before moving to litigation.

That still doesn't really help the libraries though. It just makes the content more accessible through illicit means.

I don't think that's an entirely fair assessment of what they've done. Most of their core apps are developed in house, or by a different group that I'm reasonably certain they fund (though I could be wrong on that point)

That's not really the GPL though, that's just because very few people run Linux without also running countless GNU utilities. The people that argue for calling it GNU + Linux don't bring the GPL into it at all.

That doesn't matter! Apple's entire argument, which I completely agree with, is that if they make this firmware, then it exists. It doesn't matter that they were only instructed to put it on one phone, once it's out ther

At least in the Go community, it doesn't seem like people are ever saying generics as a concept are bad, but that there are very real tradeoffs involved in adding them to Go, and they're the kinds of tradeoffs the language designe

There's very little incentive to accept card only. Cash, unlike credit or debit cards, doesn't carry an interchange fee, which means the full amount is going to the business, instead of losing some money to interchange.

The wiki is just a git repository of markdown files. You can grab that and use a local text editor if you want, though that's not integration with the app (but I'm also partial to using the command line).
