Yes, that is the process of "civilization" that he is talking about in the article. I'm starting to think that some of these comments are generated by someone typing "Give me a really generic conservative argument agains

Electric instruments in general derive their sound mostly through the electronics. There are quite a few high end electric guitar companies (like PRS) that would like you to believe otherwise. If you are in the market for an electric instru

Someone rode by you a little too close on a bicycle and now you want everyone to have to use less efficient forms of transportation, worsening the climate crisis? Wow, is all I can say.

"Clever" developer limitation like this almost invariably cause developers to come up with even more convoluted solutions to problems than needed. Don't disagree that long functions can be an indication that someone was copy

This madness needs to stop. What features does USB-C not have that the masses have been clamoring for? The only one I can think of is fixing the confusing sub specs that make different cables and ports incompatible with each other, which se

Heavy use of libc for file io and dynamic memory allocation, but not much else. Some of our code could be converted to using static memory buffers, but we also use some third party libraries that are not so easily changed. Thanks for the li

Thanks for asking for those clarifications, I don't expect any of the UI work will ever be done in WASM (because it doesn't need to be shared with the embedded side of things). It is more porting standalone libraries that would be

Looking to get the perspective of some HN'ers here. I am primarily an embedded engineer working with C. Our (small) software team also has a few web people that work on the web UI of our embedded Linux product. Obviously, there is a to

You are going to need to provide a source for your claim that cooling is less efficient than heating. AFAIK from my days as a mechanical engineer, heating from an electric source is ~95% efficient and cooling is ~30% efficient...

If there is un-written cached data there is a capacitor bank that allows this data to be quickly written to non-volatile flash and rw heads to be retracted in the event of power loss. They test this feature pretty heavily, esp. in enterpris

From what I have heard, they are a terrible company to work for (even for SWE). I could be wrong but that reputation alone has made me ignore most job postings and recruiters reaching out. Even if they could offer me a 20+% pay rise.
