At the most basic level performance is way below what I have seen with AWS. It was taking about 20 times longer to load data into a database cluster in Azure then into AWS. Additionally Azure is _just_ getting Availability zones online. Pre

I think its less of tailoring for AWS and more that AWS is worlds ahead of Google and Microsoft in their commercial offerings, and especially their government offerings. For instance Google Cloud does not have a High certification from FedR

One of the things I love about open source projects is they are almost forced to do this and it works great. Having designs written down and iterated on helps in planning and designing, and helps when its time to make changes. Being able to

I will add my own anecdote that if anything Tesla is underrated. Not only is the drivetrain in the car worlds ahead of anything else on the road, but the fringe parts of the company like the supercharger network and service organization so

I recently migrated to staying on GMail but using offlineimap and a program called notmuch to view and send mail. In this world I have all my mail locally, GMail is just an IMAP endpoint to store my mail.

DC was listed in that article as one of the places that didn't experience that trend so my anecdotal evidence is most likely biased. However I would be interested to see a similar survey done for 2017 and 2018 to see how electric bikes

Almost all the big cities I have been to in America have gotten way better with biking infrastructure in the past 10 years. When I went to school in philadelphia I can't remember a single bike lane or any form of infrastructure. Now in

I think cycling advocacy is alive and well, but the gains aren't as dramatic, because now they are incremental improvements to what has already been won. You are seeing miles and miles of shared bike lanes going up all across the US. I

Maybe they can get Netflix working on Linux in addition to trying to use governments to shut down their competition. I _want_ to use brave, but without a fully working browser its hard to switch off firefox.

I think the only special set of circumstances is that they were able to go public and remain independent. At this point most companies get acquired as an exit, but thats not just Open Source companies, thats almost all companies.

The most successful open source company of all time is RedHat. They built their core product 100% open source. I think there is a model out there where you can be open source and still provide a valuable service for customers.

I just made a similar swap from a 2013 MBP to the X1 and so far I love it. One great thing about the T480 over the X1 is you can push the CPU harder in the T480 due to better cooling. I like the size of the X1 so went with the smaller labto
