I took this course the first time through and really really enjoyed it. This time I got a bunch of my Coworkers to sign up by promising them I could TA the course for them. It should be a good time had by all. Especially since we can then d

I love kickstarter as much as the next guy, but this is stupid. You just threw 10% of your donations away. I don't think Kickstarter is necessarily the best tool for this kind of fundraising.

Yes. Its fairly common. It helps if you have something you can point to to display your technical ability or aptitude, but my company regularly has internships for a half dozen students.

I am amazed people even see Lift as in the same balpark as Play. When I last used lift It appeared to be a relic of the J2EE stack ported to a new language. This goes beyond any technical capabilities of the framework and down to how it exp

I am no Haskell expert, so I might be wrong on this, but is that code right ? I would imagine the fourth line should read isIfOfInterest (CIf cond _ _ _) = not (null (listify isFooIdent cond)) not isIfOfInterest (CIf cond _ _

I think we are on the same page now. What your describing works well If you do it _everywhere_ and also _require_ exceptions to be handled, much like Java does (mostly) in c++ its a total crap shoot since destructors don't run if you pop th

Somewhat. You are correct to say were know that the exception was raised in the try block so we have an idea about where it came from, but unless each try block is one statement long you don't know where the exception came from . That's the

So exceptions do add structure as to where you can go _to_ but they serve the same purpose in where you can come _from_ Its a little easier to trace since you are scope bound, but its still harder then being able to trust the control flow o

Back in my early years as a software developer I once though that I could make some really eligent code by using exceptions for control flow. I used it to do a form of what I now know is pattern matching. It really cleaned up the code and m

This is the tech world equivalent of tabloids. Please don't promote this mindless back and forth, If you have a problem with Heroku leave and go to one of the other providers. If you don't stay and push them to fix this problem. Either way

Thats is the worse idea ever, hand written make files are extremly prone to failure, moreso then CMake files. There is a way to verify that you have all your dependencies and everything is discovered rather then hard coded, but some people

CMake generates Makefiles and it really is only good for building software while Make can be used for any number of complex tasks. I agree that if you need a build system use CMake it will make your life easy.

This is essentially the same thing you find with Java and Scala. There are still a few benefits to using the base language, but for the most part you can get the same results in much less code with comparable performance. The only differenc
