I'm really surprised by how uneducated most of HN are about blockchain. This means we're still early. Few big things that are coming out of blockchain; 1) ICO - a way to raise money in a distributed manner outside the traditional

Just to add something to the conversation. I'm sure you guys see these recruiting emails as well but here an example of why H1B is broken. This salary is below market rate, clearly targeting H1B visas. Also below 150k mark. I like the

I worked in the finance industry, IT side. I can say that these work Visas are abused in that industry. Less so in tech and startup space. I think having a min salary that's 2x average for the job would also solve this. I'm will t

The problem is that none of it is consistently communicated. Maybe something like "let's replace the police with XYZ, this is why A, B and C" vs "defund the police".

I agree with you in a game setting where we play multiple roads but that's not possible and I think many people will be hurt by this.

Please feel free to ignoring the fact that cost of living in LA has gone up above inflation rate. Check your bias at the door please. "For example, the Bureau of Census reports that the average price of a new home in January 2000 was $

I agree with all these points. I would also like to add that; I noticed that I need to over communicate everything and give a level of detail around what needs to be done. It could be the people we hired, but I have noticed this at other pl

I'm kinda late to this conversation but there are companies and Engineers trying to solve this problem basically adding more "semantics" to visual content. Good place to start is with this blog from Pinterest. https:/&#

I'm not very surprised, most of the travel industry is getting hit hard. On a side note, I had a very bad experience with Airbnb. I found out, because it happened to me, that they remove negative reviews of hosts. I lot of the rating o

In general, Yes this is a big issue when dealing with colors. One example where you run into this; is when you'r reducing color space from say 256 to say 12 color space (most common colors). Using LAB really helps but still not perfec

Hundreds of coins and hundreds of tokens. This is the growth phase for crypto, people are trying out new things. Some of these coins and tokens will not be here in 5 - 10 years and some will be used every day by all of us.

Yes, column updates. Although, using MySQL now, I really miss DDL migrations of PostgreSQL. It's a trade off.

UPDATE client set enabled = true; So something like this will rewrite the whole table because of MVCC. MySQL will update the record in place without rewriting the whole table.

Yes, if you have a need to update large amounts of records. For example, updating a single column of all your records will cause the whole table to be rewrite, thus causing a super high IO load.

I think the future for cryptos is bright but Bitcoin, and other coins, have some issues. I'm also happy for the miners since you'r happy paying 5k$ for a single digital transaction.

I think cryptocurrency have a future but things like that will prevent it from mass adoption. Good luck explaining this to a non-CS, why a transaction cost .5$ one time and 5000$ another time.
