I couldn’t find anything on dentists, but I did find an article stating that Cuban doctors are, on average, paid more than other workers: https://havanatimes.org/news/cuba-raises-mds-salaries-by-up-...

The problem with socialism is that there are certain jobs people do only for money. For example, no one becomes a dentist because they are passionate about teeth. However, it makes sense to have a floor on earnings in the form of a UBI.

Yes, they are. Consider a uniform random variable between 0 and 1. The probability that the r.v. is in (0, 1) is 1, but 0 and 1 are possible values the r.v. can take. This is called “almost surely” and pops up frequently in, for example,

Unfortunately, that’s not how the system currently works. Literally any bank (in our currently capitalist system) would collapse from undue pressure from depositors. This is because banks are under pressure to make a profit, and the only

The only reason I was able to break into programming was because of high standardized test scores. The SAT and others like it really are a great equalizer. Dropping the requirement is a shame.

When I was put on a medication for a mental health disorder, I gained 50+ pounds in 3 months. My eating habits did not change. Explain that.

I am in a similar predicament. Sometimes I wonder if it’s me or the system, but then I think that Western Civilization wouldn’t work if it weren’t me… right???

For those wondering why there are two links, my link was dead before somebody upvoted it. Didn't know that was possible, so thanks to whoever upvoted! Not in it for the karma, so feel free to upvote either link, this one or mine!

I have a hunch that 4chan used to pass around rule 34 images steganographically in other images, but I was too lazy and too horrified of what I might see to find out for myself.

16 --> 15 would be a good candidate, as everyone would assume base 16 and you could use the full character set in your (secret) base 15 message. Too lazy to test it out, but theoretically plausible.

I guess the key was to realize it wasn't utf-16 and to Google the original hex. Cool rabbit hole.

As a mentally ill person myself, I don’t want to have to deal with being accosted when I go out just to buy food. If these policies get people off the streets, I think that is a good thing!

I may be atypical because I was able to work in industry for a few years before my formal diagnosis. My illness was exacerbated by the fact that I could no longer bolster my identity with work and achievement, so I have found other ways (m

Think about it: how likely is it for an employer to hire someone who self-discloses schizophrenia? And if you choose not to disclose, how do you explain the gaps in your resume when you were involuntarily committed or recovering from a rec

As someone formally diagnosed with schizophrenia, I would say the worst parts of it are anhedonia and stigma. Anhedonia means we can just rot in our apartments for days at a time getting nothing accomplished and stigma prevents us from wor

Imagine, for example, applying for a job with no social media presence. OK, maybe “engage or die” is not the right phrase, but you get the gist of what I’m saying.

Honestly, I think a lot of people in the First World could use a service like this. Hell, I’d use it if the price point was slightly lower for my region.

This is a unique form of privilege. Most people don’t have the choice to “disconnect”. It’s engage or die. Not that I think technology is the be all and end all, but I think we are lucky if we are in the position to be able to shun it.
