I'm not sure you can refactor away the complexity of LuaJIT. It will always end up somewhere as a complete jit'ing compiler with no external dependencies just is inherently a complex beast. What might make sense it to have a more

I did a few benchmarks on the Raspberry Pi a year ago and got similar results. CPU decoding is a lot faster using libjpeg-turbo compared to using the hardware jpeg decoder: https://info-beamer.com/blog/omx-jpeg-decoding

> A web browser is a locally running program That is of course correct. I should have worded it a bit more technical, I guess :-) Support of unix domain sockets depends on the program, so not all support that, but Redis and memcache do.

Alternatively just use unix domain sockets. That way only locally running programs can access your service. Random ports sounds like security through obscurity (which might work from time to time).

You're both correct. I hope they find a solution to fix the utterly broken garbage that captive portals are: Every "portal" is different and complete prevents automated internet access. I hope this gets fixed somehow, althoug

I fully agree. That's why I've invested lots of work into my digital signage os ( https://info-beamer.com/hosted ): It's booting into a read-only squashfs that contains everything. The squashfs, kernel and PI f

As someone who is using the Raspberry Pi professionally, I'm nervous when I see that rainbow square in the top right corner in both their screen snapshot and the video (0:16 in). It's a sign that the Pi doesn't get enough pow

For gmail, if you have someone@gmail.com, you can just append +anything to your address like this: someone+anything@gmail.com. It will still end up in your mailbox without having to set up anything. See https://gmail.googleblog.c

While you can generate unique hostnames of name servers per user you can't assign all of them unique IP addresses (at least in IPv4) as dns resolving doesn't have anything like vhosts (why should it?). So there will be overlap. Wh

I wanted to have a way of accessing parts of my email account from untrusted machines (e.g. from an internet cafe while on vacation). I didn't find a simple way to do this, so I wrote my own tool. It's a python/flask/gev

I agree 100%. I think you have to experience the problems of having to deal with a system that was over-engineered from the very start using all kinds of unneeded abstractions. Once you ran into that, you hopefully appreciate simpler soluti
