On an Android. I like the idea, and am currently studying Korean. The app is unusably slow, and hangs often. If you want my phone environment, feel free to pm.

My current place does it on slack and has a standup. Oh, and everything is also logged in jira tickets. Makes little sense, in my opinion.

Not propofol specific, as I'm not sure what I was administered, but "rebooted" is the best way I've found to explain it. I've only been put under once, and similarly for knee surgery. After everything was prepped, m

Ouch... Hopefully Japan will change this at some point, with the increase in international marriages. I've been living here long enough and paid enough taxes to consider becoming a citizen. But I wouldn't trade it for my US citize

According to some sources (Bloomberg) South Korea is currently the most innovative country in the world, and having spent significant time there, I wholeheartedly agree. Despite the mythos surrounding Japan espoused by some ill-informed wes

Reminds me of a time when I was in Seoul. I had just bought a crisp pair of all white walking shoes. I was on the train with my girlfriend (att) and she deliberately stamped on my foot. Of course, I was quite confused; however, she explaine

Same, I bought a quite expensive pair of Chippewa brand engineering boots ($500 US) and they're going on 5 years strong. The only care I need is the occasional wax, scuff removal, and a re-sole. The cost may seem a bit much at first, b

This reminds me of when I accidentally "crashed" a yakuza meeting. I was still (compared to now) new in Japan, and was outside a train station in Tokyo waiting for my friend. This particular station has a quite nice and expansive

Not engineering, but I know some product managers in Japan (working for US tech companies) pulling that kind of salary.

I can't count the number of times I've re-read The Book of New Sun. Absolute masterpiece. Wolfe's books are truly mind altering and forever change the way you think about science fiction and life in general.

Fair enough. I also live in a upscale residential area of Minato (Azabu Juban). I'm actually considering a move to Shirokane, as Juban is getting a bit too crowded. I admit I am biased in that my nearest Donki is the Roppongi location.

When I said central Tokyo, I should have been more clear. I was referring to Shibuya, Shinjuku, and Minato ku. I'm well aware of the diversity (or sometimes lackthereof) of Japanese cities/neighborhoods. I've been living here

Perhaps not many years ago, but they are certainly full of tourists now. Check out the Shibuya or Roppongi Donki on any given day, and the number of tourists is far greater than that of locals -- same with Daiso, recently. Also my comment d

While not explicit, I do get the sense that they are trying to glamorize these atrocious stores. If you are American just imagine a 6 story "Big Lots!" that happens to also sell designer bags and sex toys. Those stores are a mess

That's the crux. Every thought I have has a visual element. If I think of a perfume, then I'm back in the hotel seeing the person that was wearing it. If I imagine a taste, then I can see the dish.

This is shockingly similar to my own mind's eye. In fact, I rely on it quite heavily in my day to day life. I need to visualize things in my mind in order to understand them -- whether if be a code structure, a system design, or a fr

The real cost was not hidden. In fact, it was quite clear to me -- it was on my bill. Even still, the total was a tiny fraction of what a similar procedure would have cost in the US. There is no objective cost for a service.

It's hard to display emotion through text, and I say the following without flippancy: I pay my taxes and pension. So I'd like to think I'm doing my part. Also, I highly doubt I will retire here and begin drawing said pension.

Live in Tokyo and couldn't agree more. I've been to Mt. Mitake a few times, where wasabi makes up a nice portion of the economy. Towards the top of the mountain, you can literally smell the wasabi in the air. It's kind of the
