I thought it was implied that bin vs sbin is a permissions thing. What is outdated in that link? I use Fedora 39 Atomic and, as far as I can tell, even it follows these conventions (and even added /var/userlocal for themselves).

Yes, /usr/bin and /usr/local/bin is for the package manager vs user compiled. The link I posted mentioned it. But separating bin from sbin is more of a permissions thing. I suppose you could set permissions individu

You might be interested in Fedora's Atomic desktops. They are immutable OS's where you don't spread crap all over the filesystem. Instead you rely on flatpaks, containers (toolbox or distrobox), and single binaries (if you go

The Windows Program Files style directories might make sense to you on a single user workstation. But on a multi-user server, its a security nightmare.

Someone decided to shoehorn Windows Program Files into Linux? Yikes. Jokes aside, this completely ignores the fact that there is a reason for /usr/bin and /usr/local/bin and /etc and the sbin directories. A lot

So I just installed the Google Gemini app on my (completely stock) Pixel 7 and let it replace the normal Google Assistant. This is half baked AF. It can't create reminders in Google's own Tasks app. It can't control Spotify.
