I don't think it is a problem that is harder on mobile than web, it is just that up till now for mobile we have only focused on downloads: downloads is the main metric for iTunes Store and Google Play to rank apps and to get into a top 25.

Apple should rank apps based on actual usage not downloads. On the web we call unique users vanity metrics, and monthly active users the real deal. Why not the same for mobile?

great story! A friend of mine got her iPhone stolen, Find My iPhone didn't render anything for days so she gave up on it and got another one. This kind of technology should be standard on any new device
