Surprisingly little known, but Twitter also has a strict-timeline mode. It's great! Tap the pair of stars in the upper-right to bring up a menu to turn it on.

Perhaps the Twitter code is convoluted and messy, but really, you think to such a degree that even a small team of highly-motivated, skilled engineers could not figure it out and keep it running?

Only roadblock would be if he expects TOO much grinding. But 40 hours week of focussed intense work seems fine. I'm optmistic about twitter under him. He seems intent on actually advancing the platform. There would be real work. What h

If many worlds is true, you took all options of every choice (if we assume, as seems likely, a non-zero probability of your neurons firing in a way that actuate each option). But where does the "wanting" lie? What if it's an

To me the problem is that it's natural to want to use social media in an informal, conversational way, so there will inevitably be small slip-ups of decorum. We're emotional creatures. It seems unfair, or unhealthy, even, that tho

This just drives home how crazy it is to have every piece of conversation archived forever. Being a little bit of an asshole sometimes is human. If these interactions were ocurring in real life, maybe Harthur would've said, "Hey,

simple vector implementations will do a full realloc and recopy when you run out of space. so O(1) amortized but O(N) every so often. another implementation strategy, at the cost of using some extra memory, is to allocate the new space, but

It's surprisingly hard to find an authoritative history of this. Like you, my source is having been there and experienced it: my cousins, who were in private school, were quickly able to go back to in-person instruction; my sister, who

I wasn't intending to claim that there were no interruptions at all to in-person learning in private schools, but rather, that for much of the pandemic private schools were open and public schools were closed. My dad and his wife had t

During the pandemic, SF had in-person schooling at private schools, but not in public schools. This continued long after it was clear that (a) in person schooling was not a significant risk and (b) remote education was not adequate. (You&#x

HN is a small and uniform community, twitter is basically a group messenger -- I don't think it'd be reasonable to try to apply the same standards. (dang does do a great job, and it's really remarkable how well HN has maintai

As a non-web dev, it is mystifying to me that this is hard. But, taking it as true (for some arcane reason), then perhaps they should change the design of their site so that popping away from the timeline isn't a part of the normal usa
