You're right, although I expected a much lower drop-off. We'll post follow-on data soon(ish).

Yes, asking for FB permissions twice was tripping over our users however. What seems to work right now: login with Twitter or username/password, and add FB auth later when a user wants to share. This apparently doesn't feel the same as allo

Not much - you can always login by granting FB permissions again, and you'll return to the same account. FB just provides you with a facebook id that you use to lookup the user in the db.

Initially we had a 2-step process: ask for email permissions only during signup, and for post permissions later when you actually wanted to share something. Unfortunately this confused our users even more - they didn't understand why they h

Agreed, the headline comes from a real email from one of our users. It's just one of many pretty direct responses to (only) fb auth (I'm the author)

I find their service excellent. The website doesn't have the latest hip look, but the service is solid, and they are very responsive and helpful in case you run into an issue. For a free service, that's impressive.

A long time ago I once had a "rm -Rf ..." in a bash script. Missed a space, and yep, it deleted everything. Luckily the DB wasn't owned by the logged-in user so everything was recoverable. One of these "learning the hard way" examples of wh

This video was made by Firespotter labs, the same team that developed Nosh, before Oink was released (so no, nothing to do with each other).

One thing you can do to help avoid this: use JSLint (or something equivalent) to check for missing var keywords. And, the obvious (as you already mentioned) coffeescript. Would love to hear of other suggestions on how to effectively debug t

Safari mobile (iPad) doesn't work (SSL error). Did you try running one of the SSL verifiers? (don't know the sites on the top of my head, google it).

To me, the biggest advantage of MongoDB is autosharding. If you read the friendfeed article, you'll see that they also have to deal with 'eventual consistency' on the indexes.

You can replace the toDict() method in your model with the values() method on the default manager. For example: Todo.objects.values('id', 'order', 'content', 'done').get(pk=x)

I see a few people suggesting that you start a new entity and have that company hire you. Be very careful about this since the DHS specifically tries to prevent this type of setup. In fact, it is very difficult for a startup to prove that t

I'm not so sure about "Google and StackOverflow are kinda the same step". In my experience, Google sometimes points to StackOverflow, sometimes to a copycat (really annoying), and sometimes there is no good result. I've had better results o

I'm a bit confused by this post. The author seems to celebrate a private office. I strongly prefer open work spaces that you share with others, as do many companies I've worked with/seen. Care to share your opinion? I'm curious...

Although it may sound unintuitive since Objective-C is indeed a bit more cumbersome vs. your average web stack: yes. I do think it is easier in a way to design/develop apps with a great UI on iOS devices. The point is not Objective-C, but 1

Yes, but the interesting question is why? Many large corporations indeed use Java, and the often-touted reason is safety and/or speed. Is that still a valid answer in today's web dev world? What would you recommend that AT&T for example
