Yes, obviously. There is no language that does not have a grammar. It's a requirement of all languages. The point is, lisps have sometimes been referred to as "syntaxless" historically, for the reason that the grammar is that of the AST, n

As a member of this cult with absolutely no sense of humor, I would like to mention that we drink very delicious Kool-Aid, and we are allowed to wear two different colors of sneakers. And after the comet we will join as a spaceship lands, I

Why is this downvoted? This is a fair thing to say. Lisp is basically an exposed Abstract Syntax Tree. Most languages get compiled down to something resembling a lisp before machine code. You could fairly refer to this as "syntaxless". It i

Three cheers to you, juice. I'm still waiting for this kind of spirit to seep back into the web. When we were first online, everything was weird, awesome, and seemingly limitless. Now we're in a state of incredibly boring commodification. T

Best point made in the article: "College is an oversubscribed resource". This rings factual, and I think it would be useful to discuss the ramifications of oversubscription. And the extremely high cost despite oversubscription. And MIT does

People have implemented Forth in Lisp: http://formlis.wordpress.com/2010/06/30/forth-in-lisp/ Anybody know of vice versa?

More reasons he's awesome- he wrote a fantastic introductory book to Common Lisp in 1990 that holds up to this day. It's also considered a good general early CS text by many. It is available for free download from his own directory at CMU:

How about everything? Seriously. The graph is one of the best data structures we have for modeling systems and taxonomies. See, for example, Avatar. What enabled the effects in that film, at its very core? A Directed Acyclic Graph.

The bottom line is squeezing an industry with 5% profit margins cannot possibly last. This is the basic point I took from the author's extremely well written and obviously experience-infused post. 5% margins??? Seriously??? My sympathies to

This is a really good point, and highlights a major difference between information derived from users based on them asking for services and explicit data users have "declared". The derived information may actually be more valuable, as you s

My take on it is this: As someone else noted thoughtfully in this thread, Norvig once said "Go where the data is." [extreme paraphrase] Google's data isn't largely proprietary. The web is accessible for any to crawl. Google Maps is based on

I'm in LA and in the industry and I agree with you. Take that menial job (although it is hard to work up from lowly PA, but not impossible). But here is the secret: DON'T BE A DICK. PLAY THE GAME BUT DO NOT COMPROMISE YOUR ETHICS TOO BADLY.

I don't like the legal speeds. I would not accept a prescription for one. Modafinil feels very different from the legal speeds, crank, coke, or other heavy stimulants... not that I know that from experience or anything. Just from reading po

The PDR is very vague on this for a reason- they have no idea. The doctors I have spoken to about it seem to think it is not a stimulant, it is something "better." They are calling it a wakefulness promoting agent. This isn't just PR boobsp

We are talking about medical and pharmaceutical classification here. "Stimulant" has a medical meaning. Provigil has NOT been classed a stimulant, which has a specific meaning. The Physician's Drug Reference (PDR) is the last word on this,

The PDR describes its action as "unknown," and says it is not a stimulant. This is a common error.

I have a legal prescription for 200 mg Provigil. Many of the comments here have factual inaccuracies. - Provigil is Schedule IV, which is not highly restricted, and is prescribed on regular scrip paper, not DEA paper. - Some STATES restrict
